Information to the market regarding two new concepts of Software Handling

Since May 2003, first engine is D12D-EVC, some engines have been produced within a new
concept regarding Software handling.

In the new concept there is no possibility to order a pre-programmed ECU on part number level
only.

Instead a mail including, among other things, Chassis Id./Engine Serial No., MID No. and part
No. of the ECU, has to be created. The order form will be sent to the order offices.

Please note that the order procedure of pre-programmed ECU's for engines produced before
the introduction of the new concept, has not been changed.

However, after June 7 2004 also ECU's for the old D12-engines will be treated in the "new
concept" and thus can't be ordered on part no. level anymore.

On Volvo Penta Partner Network there is an order form to fill in. Instructions how to fill in the
form is described on Partner Network.
• The mail is sent to the Central Warehouse or a Support Warehouse.
• The central warehouse picks the ordered ECU and performs the downloading.
• Two invoices will be produced, one for the ECU and one for the Software.
Exception; The ECU, included software for EDC4, will be charged on only one invoice.
• The pre-programmed ECU is shipped to the customer.

If you can't use VPPN you have to mail/fax the order form on next page to your ordinary Volvo
Parts order office.

Dealer equipped with the Vodia tool will be able to perform a software download.
This will result in one invoice.
Compared to ordering of a pre-programmed ECU from the central warehouse, the software
price is lower when the dealer performs the downloading.

This form should be used if ECU's are ordered from the Warehouse in Gent and you don't have
access to VP Partner Network where you can use an electronic order process.

Extended Software Functionalities for the Aftermarket

Volvo Penta can now offer extended funcionalities for an engine/product by

downloading of software with the Vodia tool.

You simply log on to Volvo Penta Partner Network, order the Accessory Kit, download
the software to your PDA and update your Electronic Control Unit.

The new extended functionalities are called Accessory Kits and they are:
• Lowspeed
• Trollin

• Volvo Penta IPS joystick

All released software is intended for engines/products havinq EVC generation C.

However, for Volvo Penta IPS Joystick there is a possibility to update also units having
generation B2. You have to order a hardware kit, mount it on the engine/product and
thereafter download the new software.

Very Important: When you order an Accessory Kit on Volvo Penta Partner
Network an invoice will be createdl

Order procedure

The Accessory Kits are ordered on Volvo Penta Partner Network (VPPN).
If a hardware kit is needed you have to order this part from your warehouse.
Do not order the Accessory Kit on VPPN until you have received the hardware kit.

Under the menu Parts and Accessories there will be an option to order the different
Accessory Kits.
You find the option to the left on the screen; SPECIAL ORDER ROUTINES
By clicking on the required Accessory Kit you will be transferred to the menu where you
can order the kit.
You will be guided through an order procedure which in the end will give you the right
Accessory Kit and in some cases also Conversation Kits.
Then simply follow the instructions.
NBI When you order the Accessory Kit an invoice will be createdl Please check
with your Market Unit or Importer for prices.

Invoice procedure

You will be charged when you order the Accessory Kit on VPPN. Please note the
difference from the process today where you are charged after confirmation of the
downloading of software.

Conversion Kits, if any, and the downloading to the concerned Electronic Control Unit
will be free of charge.

The invoiced part number is the same as the Accessory Kit part number. Please check
with your Market Unit or Importer for prices.

Downloading procedure

After the ordering of the Accessory Kit and in some cases Conversion Kits, you have to
download the software to the PDA following today's procedure.

Update of the Electronic Control Unit will follow today's procedure. You will find more
information on the Vodia menu.
