This guide is intended for network operators and system administrators. A good understanding of IP Multimedia
Subsystems (IMS) and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) technologies are required in order to use the product, and to
understand the terms and concepts used in this guide.

Overview

Anova Data provides industry-standard key performance indicators (KPIs) and value-add aggregate VoLTE KPIs to
measure network activity and enable you to isolate issues within your network.
Using the information provided by the KPIs, you can perform actions including the following:
• proactively managing network services
• troubleshooting issues in real-time
• understanding the root causes of customer issues. .

Using KPIs for Network Quality Monitoring


When using KPIs to monitor network quality, you can evaluate the absolute value of the KPIs and compare the
results against other networks or with reference values. You can also use the KPIs to evaluate network usage trends
and the changes of the KPIs.
The value of a KPI can change for several reasons, including the following:
• Changes in the network configuration.
Typically, changes in the network configuration are indicated by a sudden change in the KPI value. These
sudden changes may be caused by:
• Network node faults which affect the surrounding areas
• New nodes integrated into the network
• Parameter changes (including the activation of new features)
Occasionally, the variation in KPI values can be more gradual, for example, when the network change is
related to a progressive rollout activities.

• Changes in the local traffic level


In most cases, the increase in the local traffic level is gradual and produces a gradual effect on the KPIs. The
KPI trend, in this case, is usually visible in weekly or monthly observation periods.
However when the load exceeds some thresholds the effect could produce a sudden degradation of the KPIs
during the most loaded hours of the day, alternated with more stable periods.
Special events, such as stadium events, public celebrations, public holidays, etc, can also generate peaks of
traffic.
• Changes in user behavior
User behavior can differ or change under the following conditions:
• During the work week and on the weekends.
• As a result of the introduction of new services or new applications/UEs.
• New usage offering by carriers.
• Environmental changes, such as the weather..

Description: Counts the number of failed registrations.

OK response code except 401 and 423. Failed responses are defined by

Call KPIs

Successful Call Attempt


Description: Counts the number of successful call attempts.
Logical Formula: Unique Call-Id count for INVITE with StatusCode = 200, 410, 480, 486,
487, 91, 93, 98. Only specific reason codes within 4xx responses are con-
sidered as SUCCESS. Successful responses are defined by configurable
rules table and enumerated in VoLTE Performance -> Signaling -> Signal-
ing Events.

Failed Call Attempt


Description: Counts the number of failed call attempts.
Logical Formula: Unique Call-Id count for INVITE with failed response such as 3xx, 5xx,
and certain 4xx. All the reason codes within 4xx responses except those
considered as SUCCESS are counted for FAILED attempts. Failed
responses are defined by configurable rules table and enumerated in
VoLTE Performance -> Signaling -> Signaling Events.

Description: Counts the number of active calls.
Logical Formula: Unique Call-Id count for any successful INVITE, BYE, or DATA. Active
calls are defined by configurable rules table and enumerated in VoLTE Per-
formance -> Signaling -> Signaling Events.

Dropped Call
Description: Counts the number of dropped calls.

Description: Counts the number of calls with no media traffic in either direction.

Media Gap Call


Description: Counts the number of calls with one or more media gaps.
Logical Formula: Unique Call-Id count for RTP streams with (uplinkmediacount > 0 OR

packets are observed for more than 5 seconds (configurable) for calls in
connected state (INVITE-200OK).

Average MoS
Description: Average MOS score of the combined upstream and downstream MOS
scores for all given event measurements.
Logical Formula: Sum(Upstream_MOS + Downstream MOS) divided by (Count Upstream
MOS + Count Downstream MOS).

MoS Satisfaction Rate


Description: The satisfaction rate is calculated from the MOS Satisfaction Index (MSI),
as the sum of MSI 4 or 5, over the sum of all MSIs. MSI is mapping of
G.107 based on the 5 scores of User Satisfaction, 5 being “very satisfied”,
and 1 being “nearly all users dissatisfied”.
Logical Formula: Number of RTP uplink scores and RTP downlink scores with MOS 4 and 5
divided by Number of RTP uplink scores and RTP downlink scores with
MoS 1 thru 5.

Description: Amount of time elapsed between initiating a call and receiving ring-back
for Mobile Terminated calls.
Logical Formula: Time between INVITE and the 18x response for Mobile Terminated Calls.

Description: Amount of time elapsed between initiating a call and receiving ring-back
for Mobile Orignated calls.

Description: Counts the number of successful call attempts with SRVCC interworking.
Logical Formula: Unique transactions of either SRVCC or CSFB procedure with successful
response such as GTP-C 16. Successful responses are defined by configu-
rable rules table and are enumerated in VoLTE Performance -> Signaling ->
Signaling Events.

Failed IW Call
Description: Counts the number of failed call attempts with SRVCC interworking.
Logical Formula: Unique transactions of either SRVCC or CSFB procedure with failed

enumerated in VoLTE Performance -> Signaling -> Signaling Events.

Percentage of Successful IW Calls


Description: Ratio of successful internetworking calls over all interworking call
attempts.
