Lesson Plan Task
Grade: Kindergarten
Lesson: Fish and Aquariums

Standard: “__________”

Materials: Fish, fish tank, water, pebbles, seaweed, student workbook/ flip book
activity, color crayons, and pencils

Learning Target: I can label the parts on an aquarium and answer questions about it.

Success Criteria: Students can label the different parts of the aquarium and
understand the different aspects of a fish and its environment.

Formative Assessment: As a class, we will read a book about fish and where they
live. We will also talk about different environments that fish may be (ocean, lake,
pond, fish tank, etc.)

What: Fish and where they live

Why: To grow children's knowledge about animals, where they live, how they live,
why they live where they do.

How: Students will obverse a fish in a fish tank (aquarium). The aquarium will have
water, fish, pebbles/rocks, seaweed, and other items. I will then ask the students
questions about what they see in the aquarium and why they think those items
would be in there. I would also ask my student what they see on the fish (gills,
mouth, fins, tail, etc.). Once we have observed and talked about the aquarium and
the fish students will be given a flip book. They will first be asked to draw and label
the aquarium and the items in it. Then they would draw and label the parts of a fish
(gills, mouth, fins, tail, etc.).
