Learning Target/s:
a. Identify all the parts of a cell and its function.
b. Differentiate plant and animal cells according to presence or absence of certain organelles using a venn diagram.

I. LEARNING EXPERIENCE:
a. Concept Notes
Cells – are the basic unit of life and that is capable of carrying out all the functions of living things.

Plant Cell

Animal Cell

Parts and Functions of a Cell

Organelle Function
1. Cell Wall Provides mechanical support and maintain cell shape in plant cells.
2. Plasma Membrane Selectively permeable; regulates the entry or exit of materials
3. Mitochondrion Provides energy for the cell in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate
(ATP)
4. Vacuole Stores water, food, or wastes of the cells
5. Golgi Apparatus Sorts, packages, and secretes materials; also involved in the processing
and modification of proteins
6. Cytoplasm Matrix of the different cellular organelles; distribution of materials
throughout the cell due to cyclosis
7. Nuclear Membrane Separates the nuclear contents from the contents of the cytoplasm
8. Nucleolus Synthesis of RNA and production of ribosomes
9. Nucleoplasm/Nuclear Sap Functions as the matrix of the chromosomes and nucleolus.
10. Chromosomes Carriers of genes responsible in transmitting hereditary characteristics
11. Nucleus The control center of the cell; directs and coordinates all cellular
activities
12. Endoplasmic reticulum Translocation of materials within the cells and in and out of the nucleus
13. Chloroplasts Provides for the green color of plants; functions for photosynthesis
14. Centrioles Formation of spindle fibers during cell division; function as the anchor
for the cytoskeletons
15. Lysosome Simplifies/ breaks down complex materials.
16. Ribosome Protein factories of the cell
b. Checking for Understanding
Direction: Using the venn diagram, compare and contrast plant and animal cell.

PLANT CELL ANIMAL CELL

c. Processing Questions:
1. What makes plant cell different from animal cell?

2. What do you think will happen to the cell if the plasma membrane does not work properly?

d. Framing Concepts
Direction: Write down some interesting facts about a cell.
