M-Audio O2 Controller Templates

Using a hardware controller with Stylus RMX gives you maximum control
over your groove production. You can edit, re-mix, and manipulate RMX
grooves instantly in real time. It’s powerful, fun, and musically rewarding!

There are two main steps to perform in order to get started; loading the data
for the M-Audio O2, and selecting the template in Stylus RMX.

The O2 features an efficient collection of knobs and buttons. The templates we

have provided take full advantage of those features – every control is used.
STEP 1 – SET UP THE O2

Make sure you have installed the hardware and software for the O2 according
to M-Audio’s documentation.

The O2 holds five controller Presets. These five Presets are stored within a
Preset Bank file (.xml extension).

We have provided a Preset Bank file that duplicates the M-Audio factory
Presets in the first four slots, and has the Stylus RMX preset in the fifth slot.

TRANSMITTING A PRESET BANK TO THE M-AUDIO O2

IMPORTANT - This procedure will overwrite the memory contents of

the M-Audio O2.

Once you have successfully transferred the Preset Bank, you will
need to recall Preset P05.

1. Launch Enigma, the O2 Editor/Librarian.

2. From the File menu, select “Import Preset Bank…”.

3. Select the Preset Bank you wish to use.

(For example, RMX_O2 Preset Bank.xml). It is located inside the

M-Audio O2 directory within the MIDI Learn directory.

…/SAGE/Stylus RMX/Patches/MIDI Learn/ M-Audio O2/RMX_O2 Preset Bank.xml

4. Click “Open”.
The Editor/Librarian now shows the following:

5. Click on the Update button to send the data to the O2. After a few
seconds, the data transmission is complete.

6. On the O2, recall memory P05.

(See M-Audio’s Editor librarian documentation for more information on

how to recall presets).
STEP 2 – SET UP STYLUS RMX

Make sure you have Stylus RMX version 1.5 or above installed.

SELECTING THE CONTROLLER TEMPLATE IN RMX

From the Stylus RMX Utility menu (the button denoted with a Floppy icon),
select MIDI Learn / Load Template.

Select the template M-Audio O2 Part.ctl_rmx

You are ready to control Stylus RMX from the M-Audio O2.
USING RMX AND THE M-AUDIO O2

We have provided three controller templates for RMX. It’s important to

understand the difference between them.

M-Audio O2 Part.ctl_rmx is designed to work on a single part, one part at

a time. The controls are assigned to several useful parameters.

M-Audio O2 Chaos.ctl_rmx also works on a single part, but is designed for

controlling several Chaos parameters simultaneously.

M-Audio O2 Mixer.ctl_rmx allows you to control Part Level for all eight
RMX parts via the eight knobs on the O2.

Be sure that your host application is sending MIDI to RMX; then load grooves
into all 8 parts.

If you attach a footswitch to the O2 and press it, RMX will “ALL Play”. Press it
again to stop playback.

The table at the end of this document shows how the M-Audio O2 hardware
controls are mapped to Stylus RMX. Have fun exploring the amazing features
of Stylus RMX from your hardware controller!
CREATE AND SHARE YOUR OWN TEMPLATES

The templates we have provided are only the beginning of what you can do
with your hardware controller and Stylus RMX. We’ve provided a blank table
for you to document your own Controller Template creations. You will find it
in the User Template Tools folder, which is located inside the MIDI Learn
directory on your hard drive.

We encourage you to create your own templates, and then share them at the
Yahoo Spectrasonics User Group:

Enjoy using Stylus RMX with your M-Audio O2.

Best regards,

The Spectrasonics Team
