Recessed Vanguard accommodates either 400-watt
mercury or Metalarc lamps, but is particularly designed
for the new l\iletalarc,/C lamp a phosphor coaied
- tones and superior
l,4etalarc lamp offering warm color
color rendition. The combinatlon of superior light out-
put, high lighting efficiency, low operating cost and
excellent color rendition makes the Recessed Vanguard
particularly suited for supermarkets, merchandising
areas, lobbies, public buildings and other areas where
comfortable hiqh liqhtinq levels are desired.

ELECTRICAL: Standard. 4" x 4" x 11/2" steel outlet box with
lacilities for direct flexible conduit or /r" LD. condult con-
nection. Flexible cond!it connector factory lnstalled. Unlt
lactory wired with 48" of #14-SF-2,200'C,600 volt wire ior
easy connection to remote-mounted 400 watt ballast.
VERSATILITY OF APPLICATION: The ight distribution pat-
tern ol the Hecessed Vanguard is "built-ln" the rellector by
varying the light-cenler-length. The same refecior can be
used to achleve four light-distributlon variations simpli
fying installation and maintenance of reflectors. -
LOW BRIcHTNESS REFLECTOR: Beflecior design provides
extremely comfortable installation with minima direct g are
(87 iootlamberts at 65' with brightest lamp) for maximum
visual comlort.
HlcH VERTICAL ILLUMINATION: The Recessed Vanguard
provides high illumination on vertical surfaces which is par-
ticularly important in merchandising. ll combines highlighting

CUT OUT C IRCLE

Cut circle in 2' x 2' acoustical tile and insta I support

brackets over ceilinq suspension members located on
2' centers. lf desired, two additlonal pieces may be
secured perpendicular to the suspension members to
form a "frame" around the opening o{ the tile for
extra support.

INSTALL TR M RING
Back off wingnuts uniil mouniing brackets clear top
oi support members. Rotate ring until support brackets
on ring line up wilh ceiling support members. Tlghten
wingnuts.

INSTALL LUI\,4INA RE
lnstall luminaire through opening provided by removal
of adjacent ceiling lile. Center lurninaire over lrlm ring
and apply a slight downward pressure. unlt is locked
in securely as sprinq clips snap over reflector bead.

N,4AKE ELECTRICAL CO NN ECTION

For easy installalion and convenient elecirical connec-

tion, the luminaire is completely prewired and supplied
with 48 inches ol #14 wie. Steel outlet box includes a
lactory installed flexib e conduil connector. Connections
are made to remote-mounted ballast.

EASY NIA NTENANCE

Luminaires can be relamped from the iloor with a pole
lamp changer. This ieat!re eliminales scaffoiding and
ladders and even allows replacement to be done during
operating hours.

Ihe lixture shall be a Sylvania Recessed Vangrard {Calalog #) lor use

with 400 watt mercury o. Metalarc lamps. It 6hall be suiiable tor recessing
in (ceiling type) and shall be supplied with a spun aluminum trim ring
with a white, baked enamel fjnish. The reflector shall be spun aluminum
with specu'ar Alzak tinish for durabilily and sball provide a maximum
brightness on the relteclor ol 59 lootlamberls at 75' when using a 400
watt phosphor coated lvletalarc lamp in a luminaire havingamaximum Lighting Equipment Division
