Proposed Schedule for Men’s Week (13-18 June 2016)

Theme: Making Responsible Choices

Theme Explanation:

This theme was first of all inspired by the fact that this is an election year, and elections are about
one thing: CHOICE.

August 8th 2017 marks the end of a political period which we began in 2013 with a choice as a nation.
We need men to be involved in the process of understanding the life cycle of CHOICES. We
campaigned or listened to campaign messages, we took political positions, We debated or defended
our side, we prayed, we voted and then got our choice.

Do we truly understand the power of choice? Can we say for sure we are proud of the political choices
we made? Do we still have the checklist we used for making past choices? Has this checklist changed
in any way? Are we bold enough, or wise enough to conduct an audit of consequences of our past
choices?

Politics was not the only aspect of choice, but the most obvious and easiest to spring our theme from.
Other areas of choices that need to be exposed throughout Tuesday to Sunday include:

i. Responsible Financial Choices – Choices about DEBT [Roy Okonji – TUESDAY]

ii. Responsible Spiritual Choices – Choice to enter a personal covenant relationship as a man
with Christ. [Pst. Ambrose – WEDNESDAY]
iii. Responsible Political Choices – Choice to interrogate leaders vying for political office
[Panel comprising Prof. PLO Lumumba – THURSDAY]
iv. Responsible Sexual Choices – For married men, for single men [Pst. Morris Oloo - FRIDAY]
v. Responsible Health Choices – Francis Kathambana [SATURDAY]

Christ to Spread Kingdom influence [Pst Chris Atemo]

Wednesday, 14th June Responsible Spiritual Choices – We don’t Pastor Ambrose

2017 see men in large numbers making
PERSONAL choices to approach God in
surrender, in brokenness, in hunger or
thirst for righteousness. Mostly, it is a
reaction rather than a choice

Is it that men don’t understand the power

of walking I a covenant relationship with
God? What keeps men from drawing near
to God? Why do men wait until God gives
us a stop-sign [e.g imprisonment, disease
or incapacitation, loss of fortune,
relationship breakdown] before God can
get our attention?

Is it natural for a man to make a voluntary

choice for to step out and walk with God?
Can men make a choice to seek God
instead of waiting to be dragged by our
families or by situations to God?
Thursday, 15th June 2017 Responsible Political Choices: The common Boniface Mwangi
mwananchi does not regard himself as a
significant player in the political process. He Prof. PLO Lumumba
sees himself as a victim of the political
process. Barack Muluka

How can men soberly interrogate our

conscience as to whether we did the right
thing in previous electoral choices? Help us
evaluate the quality of choices we made
with a view to improving our habits this
time round. Hopefully this can come out
without sounding as if you are demonizing
or glorifying either the current
administration or the opposition groups.

Help men to explore the following:

1. What was at stake for the mwananchi

of Kenya in the run up to 2013?
2. Where does the role of the mwananchi
start and end in the process of political
choices? What does your ideal
mwananchi look like?
3. Where do you draw the line between
peaceful aggression and violence in
demanding for accountability from the
political class?
4. What are the best practices by
mwananchi in playing a watchdog role?
5. Is there any hope for a political future
of Kenya? Can we hope for a day when
sense will have prevailed? What will it
take for us to arrive there?

Friday, 16th June 2017 Responsible Sexual Choices: Our society is Pastor Morris Oloo
increasingly becoming permissive to
negative sexual influences. Today,
homosexual relationships and other
perversions exist right inside the church.

How can men understand the following

1. Is there anything wrong with the
modern man’s understanding of the
place and purpose of sexuality?
2. What right choices can men make to
reverse the trend of relationship
failures among Christians?
3. How can a man harness the power of
his sexuality to his advantage?
4. Sexual temptation is all around us
today. Can a man really develop
immunity to sexual temptation through
some regular spiritual discipline
without turning too religious?
5. As a minister of the Gospel, how have
you succeeded in avoiding sexual
temptation?
6. What has given rise to the growth of
homosexuality? Can a homosexual man
be blessed by God?
7. Is there anything wrong for a man to be
mentored (in any area of life) by a
woman?

Saturday, 17th June 2017 Responsible Health Choices – A dedicated Francis Kathambana
Saturday morning devoted to organized
sports activities between fathers and sons.

Sunday, 18th June 2017 Father’s Day: Responsible Choice For Men Pst Chris Atemo
and Fathers to Partner with Christ to
Spread Kingdom influence [Pst Chris
Atemo] (Joshua – 24:15 “…as for me
and my house, we will serve the LORD.”)
[Fathers Day – SUNDAY].
