Unprotected trib to trib with card protection on two tribs
The only invalid combination of CP and PPS is that of four tribs pairs all
carrying card protection. CP adds an extra redundant trib which is used under
equipment fault conditions. Any trib used which is part of a PPS connection
can be protected usingaxction

EOW card
The main circuit of the EOW card is an audio bridge which provides the
following functions:
• The E1 bytes from the cards in slots 1, 6 and 8 are added to give an
incoming conference signal. This signal contains the contributions from
all the order wire subscribers on the network.
• The local handset speech signal is added to the EOW conference signal
which is then returned to the network.
• The incoming conference signal is copied to the local handset. The local
speech input is not added to this signal to prevent echo in the hand
Two hardware failure signals are processed at the UEOS card and sent

Alarm Classification
Alarm Class
The alarms in the network element subrack divide into five classes. Traffic,

Card alarms
Card alarms are generated when there is a mismatch between the card type
provisioned for a slot and the actual installed card type.
Block counts
In the network element block counts are used.
Performance counts
There are a number of performance counts that are monitored within the
network element. These are:
• Errored Seconds (ES). An ES is a second where at least one anomaly

The active bank stores the currently active configuration data. The standby
bank normally stores a copy of the current configuration data. During a
restore the new configuration data is loaded into the standby bank.

New configuration data is loaded to the inactive bank on the master aggregate
card.
• The configuration upgrade status is now Ready_to_activate.
Software states 13
1
There are four upgrade states associated with the software banks of the
multiplexer:
• Stable. This state indicates that both the active and standby software

Rack installation
The OPTera Metro 4200 subrack is installed in ETSI compliant or 19 inch
(482 mm) equipment racks. The subrack mounting flanges are re-positioned
to adapt to the width requirements of the racks.
The fan tray and related hardware is installed in an ETSI compliant rack.
