A Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in English 7

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learner:

1. Determines the meaning of the given word as how it is used in the story.

2. Gives the meaning of the underlined words using context clues by choosing
the letter of the best answer.

A. Preliminary Activities

B. Motivation

-The teacher will present some words and ask the students what comes into their minds
upon reading the words.

-The teacher will then present a sentence and ask the students what the underlined
word means.

- The teacher will present the lesson by asking the students about their observation.

C. Activities

 Context clues or contextual clues are hints that an author gives to help define a
difficult or unfamiliar words.
  The clues may appear within the same sentence as the word to which it refers,
or it may follow in a preceding sentence.

 The clues may appear in the form of antonym, synonym, definition, explanation
or restatement.

Examples:

 Because there was so little precipitation this year, the crops dried up and died.

The word precipitation means rain. The contextual clues that helps to define it is the
phrase 'crops dried up and died.'

(The teacher will give more examples and let the students determine the meaning of
the underlined words and the context clues that help them in determining the
meaning.)

D. Application

(Group Activity)

The class will be divided into four.

Directions: Read the story. After reading, look for the words given by the teacher. Give
the meaning of the words according to how it is used in the story.

E. Abstraction

or restatement.
