 Development of tolerance.
 Dependence.

MEDICINAL USES

- treatment of diarrhea
-treatment of abdominal cramping
- sedative analgesic
- sedative analgesic
METHADONE
DESCRIPTION
Is a synthetic opiate manufactured for use as a painkiller and as
substitute for heroin in the treatment of heroin addiction. It has similar effects to
heroin but doesn't deliver the same degree of buzz or high as heroin.

 Feelings of euphoria.
 Sedation.
 Drowsiness.
 Relaxation.
Long-term
 Impaired judgment
 Heart problems

MEDICINAL USE:
-Treat severe ongoing pain (such as due to cancer)
- Treatment for an addiction to heroin or narcotic painkillers

DESCRIPTION
A semisynthetic opioidsynthesized from thebaine, an
opioid alkaloid found in the Persian poppy, and one of the many alkaloids found
in the opium poppy.
EFFECTS
Short-term:
 Euphoria.
 Extreme relaxation.
 Reduced anxiety.
 Pain relief.
 Sedation.
Long-term:
 Can have detrimental psuchological and physiological impacts, including
dependency
 Kidney and liver failure.
 Reduction in the brain’s ability to adapt to new input
MEDICINAL USE
-Used for managing moderate to moderately severe acute or chronic pain.

REMIFENATIL
DESCRIPTION
Is a potent ultra short-acting synthetic opioid analgesic drug. It is given to
patients during surgery to relieve pain and as an adjunct to an
anaesthetic. Remifentanil is a specific mu-type-opioid receptor agonist.
SIDE EFFECTS

 Nausea,
 Vomiting,
 Constipation,
 Dry mouth,
 Shivering,
 Itching,
 Sweating,
 Headache,
 Muscle pain,
 Cough,
 Sore throat,
 Dizziness,
 Confusion,
 Agitation,
 Low blood pressure (hypotension),
 Slow heart rate,
 Slowed breathing,
 Muscle stiffness,
 Chills,
 Flushing, and
 Sensation of warmth.

MEDICINAL USE
- Treat or prevent pain after surgery (analgesic agent)
ALFENTANIL
DESCRIPTION

chemical, and then in the central nervous system, so that breathing ceases.
