Education and Skills Evaluation

Canadian Immigration and Australian Immigration have always had a contradictory

approach to welcoming new Immigrants. They are very eager to have foreign skilled workers
and student enter their country via different Immigration routes. On the contrary, they also
demand a thorough check on your education credentials and work experience for a candidate
to qualify.

While Canada takes it easy on the assessment front, Australia has never ceased to impose tighter
norms for potential Immigrants. However, there is an influx of thousands of immigrants each
year to these countries in the pursuit of better career prospects, quality education, lucrative
business opportunities and good standard of living for their family. Let’s study further how they
qualify Immigration applicants on their points based system:

CANADA

Immigration to Canada has considerably relaxed rules for Skilled Immigration and
Permanent residency. Provinces in Canada have their own Provincial Nomination Programs
for skilled individuals to migrate to Canada. The work experience will be assessed at the
Expression of Interest (EOI) stage of the application where relevant document pertaining to
employment must be submitted on the CIC profile.

For Education Credential Assessment stage, World Education Services (WES) is the leading
body for examining the equivalency of International qualifications. If the WES cannot qualify
applicants, other bodies like International Qualification Assessment Service ( IQAS),
International Credential Assessment Canada (ICAS) & Comparative Education Service
(CES) can be used to determine the education equivalency. However, certain professionals have
their own designated bodies for this purpose like Medical Council Canada (MCC) for Doctors.

AUSTRALIA

Immigration to Australia has a more comprehensive approach to assessment of education and

work experience. At the outset, applicants must first check their occupation eligibility on the
Australia and New Zealand standard classification of Occupation (ANZSCO) list to verify that
their occupation is eligible for the appropriate Immigration procedure. Every occupation has a
designated body that sets certain eligibility standards. For example, VETASSESS, TRA, ACS,
EA, ANMAC etc. If they meet all the requirements, they must proceed to the Skills Assessment
stage where documents must be furnished to claim the required points. Then, the EOI can be
submitted.
