Intermediate Accounting I – MOS 3360A
Fall 2017
Research Case Assignment

Students are required to submit a response to one research case during the term. Only one submission will be
accepted from each student. Students must complete the assignment individually. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.

The length of your response should be a MAXIMUM of 800 words, typed. Excess words will NOT be marked. The
response should be well written and concise (in full sentences or bulleted points). Please DO NOT use incomplete
thoughts or submit rough work.

Please include a title page with the name of the instructor, your name, student number, and section number.

Please submit a hard copy of the response directly to your instructor during class time or in his/her office or put in
the mail slot across from SSC room 4305 and an electronic copy must be submitted to the students’ Drop Box on the
course OWL site. No response submitted via email will be accepted.

Please keep your own copy of the response as the copy submitted will not be returned.

Prepare a report with the following sections:

1. Identify the accounting issue(s) presented in the case.

2. Perform a detailed analysis of the accounting issue(s).

Students must use the CPA Handbook to analyse the accounting issue(s) in the case. Students must refer to
all of the relevant criteria in the applicable CPA Handbook section(s). The CPA Handbook(s) must be
referenced in the analysis using the appropriate Handbook section number(s) and paragraph number(s).
Students must use facts from the case to support their analysis. The CPA Handbook can be accessed through
the Western Libraries website or from your course OWL site.

3. Provide a recommendation/conclusion based on the analysis.

Any assignment submitted after the specific case deadline noted above will receive a grade of 0.
Assignment grades will be posted at the end of the term.
