2 SUPPORTED FUNCTIONALITY
2.1 Interoperability
Mixed operation of FSP 3000R7 version 7.1.5 with 7.0.6x is allowed but not
recommended.
It is certainly needed during update but may result in alarming due to
different protocol specifics.
Interoperability of FSP 3000R7 with other FSP products (FSP 1500, FSP 150,
FSP 2000, FSP 3000R6) is not tested fully and therefore not released.
• Topologies:
o Point-to-Point, Point-to-Multipoint, Linear Add/Drop, Ring,
Hubbed Ring and Feeder
o Support of up to 20 nodes within single subnet
o Support of up to 100 nodes in entire network
• Optical structure:
o 8 Channel CWDM, 64 Channel DWDM (100 GHz grid)
o 80 Channel DWDM point to point (100 GHz grid)
o Support of CWDM / DWDM Hybrid system configurations
• Channel Protection:
Channel Protection allows to protect not only the transmission fibre but
also doubles the terminating interface thus increasing the level of
protection. Two independent network interfaces of the same channel
module can be provisioned within a protection group to build a
redundant path to the client service.
• Local Access:
The Network Element can locally be accessed from the NCU via
serial/USB interface or Ethernet RJ45 ports.
Note: For the USB interface a special driver for Windows is needed.
• With Release 7.1 a new NCU is introduced which supports two Ethernet
interfaces with different IP addresses.
With this the external DCN connection to the NCU can use one
interface – the connection from the NCU to the OSC can use the
second.
So the IP Address for accessing the NCU can now be chosen
independently of the IP subnet of the OSC Ring – which is useful
especially for redundant DCN access to a Network Element cloud.
• Trace Monitoring for SDH & Sonet & OTN interfaces supported.
SDH/SONET interfaces will support Regenerator Section (RS)/Section
trace (J0) only. The RS/Section trace will be supported in accordance
with [G.707], [G.783] and [GR253].
OTN interfaces will support trace in OTU SM, ODU PM and activated
ODU TCMs (TCM1..6) in accordance with [G.709] and [G.798].
• Threshold Crossing Alarms for Optical Input Power on plugs will now
take the specification of the provisioned plug into account.
Limitation: Unfortunately this will lead to a removal of all user defined
Bug fixes:
- False elapsed time indication for 24h PM records has been corrected
• Remote NCU Software Download via FTP protocol (NE is FTP client):
The NCU software can be downloaded remotely using the FTP protocol.
The NE must operate as an FTP client. Therefore the PC from which the
download is carried out has to operate as an FTP server.
FTP communication will work as well taking the system IP address i.e.
in redundant DCN communication environment (using OSPF).
Note: The NTP protocol can not be activated through the TL1
interface.
• Multiple FWP updates are supported to ease update of the FWP in the
whole network element. Multiple choices are offered:
o The user can select that all modules will be updated (regardless
if the update is SA or NSA) – exceptions are active modules in a
module protection group which need to be update after a
manual switch
o The user can select that only NSA updates will be executed
(including active & inactive modules of a module protection
group)
o The user can select that only a specific module type is updated
in the whole NE – including an option to take care for being
service affecting or not
• The new NCU allows exchanging the program and database completely
by exchanging the compact flash.
• Pre-Provisioning:
Any module of a FSP 3000R7 NE can be pre-provisioned in the
database without equipment being present on site. Once the
equipment is installed and registers itself to the NCU the configuration
of the equipment is carried out as provisioned autonomously.
• Unified User Management for WEB, TL1, craft and Linux login:
The user management of the different management applications is
unified, i.e. users created/ existent within one management application
are available within the other as well with the same settings
• WEB GUI:
A WEB Graphical User Interface is available to access and manage a
single NE.
This WEB GUI allows to fully operate and provision the NE.
The WEB GUI offers a graphical rack view of the Network Element and
shows the Alarm status.
Note: Clicking on the appropriate shelf will open the detailed shelf
view. Clicking on a module in the shelf will open the alarm list for that
module.
• Historical Performance Monitoring values can be displayed in a
graphical way via the WEB GUI
• The WEB GUI is secured (using HTTPS).
Security Note: You should install the Network Element’s certificate in
your browser by checking the fingerprint from the browser against the
fingerprint in the Network Element (best using serial cable).
• Element Manager:
A separate SNMP based Element Manager software is available to
manage a NE with a graphical user interface.
As enhancements over the WEB GUI the EM features a graphical view
of the NE including visualization of module status as well as graphical
visualization of performance monitoring statistics.
New features/changes:
- configuration of System IP supported via EM
- comprehensive Element Manager help function added
- EM User manual can be launched from the EM
Bug fixes:
- false power level indication in the EM has been corrected
- Version and size indication problem during DB backup and
restore process has been solved
• SNMPv3 Interface:
SNMPv3 is supported only as a trap recipient format.
Authentication/Session handling and encryption is prepared and will
become available in a later release
• TL-1 Interface:
TL-1 (Transaction Language #1) user interface according to Telcordia

4.7.6 OSCM-V#1630
The Optical Supervisory Channel Module with optical line monitoring and
optical port (OSCM-V#1630), adds/drops a 1630 nm OSC signal and
converts it to/from electrical 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet signals. It has an
integrated Ethernet switch and three electrical 10/ 100 BaseT ports.
Additionally, the module monitors the optical line for fiber breaks and
fluctuations of fiber attenuation.
4.7.7 2OSCM-V#1630
The Optical Supervisory Channel Module with optical line monitoring and
two optical ports (2OSCM-V#1630), adds/drops a 1630 nm OSC signal
and converts it to/from electrical 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet signals. It has an
integrated Ethernet switch and three electrical 10/ 100 BaseT ports.
4.7.8 RSM-OLM#1630
The Optical Protection Switch Module with Optical Line Monitoring (RSM-
OLM#1630) is used for line protection switching in the event of fiber break
or fiber degradation. In addition it monitors the integrity and attenuation
of the transmission line. The protection switching threshold is user
configurable. As long as both transmission lines, the active as well as the
non-active line, are available the non-active line can be used to transmit
low priority traffic.
4.7.9 VSM
The Versatile Switch Module (VSM) is for optically switched protection
purposes. In the case of a network failure the VSM gets messages from
the 2OSCM-V#1630 to process protection switching. These commands are
transmitted via the backplane bus of the FSP 3000 R.7.0 system. Only in
configurations with 2OSCM-V#1630 the backup path can be monitored.
The VSM can work on a line, band, subband, group or channel basis. It
can be deployed in protected point-to-point topologies as well as in ring
topologies.
4.7.10 RSM-SF
The Remote Switch Module for single fiber solution is used for line
protection. Protection switching is triggered in case of fiber break. The
RSM-SF#1310 must work in tandem with a RSM-SF#1510 at the opposite
network element.

be used as preamplifier, booster or inline amplifier.
4.8.5 EDFA-C-D17-GC
The EDFA-C-D17-GC is a gain-controlled double-stage Erbium-Doped Fiber

first gain block works as preamplifier, the second as booster
amplifier. The midstage access allows to connect a DCM for dispersion
compensation without effecting the line budget. The EDFA-C-D17-GC can
be used as preamplifier, booster or inline amplifier. This EDFA is used for C
and L-band installations, amplifying the C-band part.
