Sliding windows and fixed glass panels

Sky-Frame Glass from floor to ceiling and from wall to wall, fixed or
sliding windows – Sky-Frame, the high-tech frameless
window makes it possible, opens areas up to four meters
high, and fulfills the highest standards and all current
building standards.

Sky-Frame eliminates boundaries between the indoors and

outdoors, between living areas and nature with its slim
mullions (20 mm) – and this at maximized heat insulation in
accordance with the Swiss MINERGIE ® and MINERGIE-P ®
standard (mullions 30mm).

For example, insulation values of up to U w=0.7 W/m 2K (SIA)

and U w=0.8 W/m 2K (EN) can be achieved with insulation
glass of U g=0.5 W/m 2K!

The aluminium system developed and in production in

Switzerland is internationally renowned. With it, more than
4’500 projects were completed and various competitions
were won to date.

Design and functionality Sky-Frame is the synthesis of high technology, design and
functionality.

The filigree mullions contain state-of-the-art technology,

from the invisible lock with superior burglary protection to a
maximized thermal separation up to a sophisticated,
stabilizing design of the aluminum profiles. The latter is a
prerequisite for optimal structural statics to prevent glass
breakage and water penetration, even in extreme
situations.

An invisibly integrated electric drive opens the moving

elements by pressing a button when desired.

Sky-Frame stands for the highest standards of aesthetics

in architecture and building physics.

System introduction

Technology

Technology The Sky-Frame sliding window with its thermally completely

separated panels moves extremely smoothly on running
gears - made of stainless steel - on rollers in two to four
easy-to-clean tracks.

The extruded aluminium multi-chamber profiles

accommodate seals and additional profiles in special
grooves.

Glass-fibre reinforced polyamide bars provide a perfect

thermal insulation of the tracks.

All aluminum profiles can be anodized or powder coated at

the customer's request.

Glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin profiles (GRP)

surrounding the glass panel form the actual frame and
simultaneously reinforce the glass edge seal.

Filigree aluminium mullions attached on the vertical GRP

profiles secure the removal of the wind loads on even the
largest surfaces. These will be reinforced by carbon fibre
(CFK) or steel inserts, if necessary.

Tempered safety glass with a heat soak test (TSG-H) rules

out the risk of glass breakage caused by heat and thermal
shock.

The optional use of laminated safety glass (LSG) increases

the burglary protection and provides anti-fall protection at
the window.

The bottom track is generally installed threshold-free. It

has an integrated drainage level, which leads to a recessed
system gutter or drains under a wooden grate outside the
building seal, even during the heaviest rainfall.

Tests Test certificates by various institutes (ift Rosenheim (DE),

FH München (DE), BFH Biel (CH), ATI (USA)) attest to
Sky-Frame's compliance with important standards for
thermal insulation, resistance to driving rain, wind resistance,
anti-fall and burglary protection and also sound insulation.

Technologies

System comparison Since the beginning of 2015, Sky-Frame has been

available in three product lines consisting of successful
products Sky-Frame 2, the highly-insulated partner system
Sky-Frame 3, and now the uninsulated Sky-Frame 1.

Sky-Frame 1 The 6 - 12 mm thick single-glazed Sky-Frame 1 is suitable

for applications without thermal insulation requirements,
both indoors and outdoors. At the same time, the
technology provides good protection from noise immissions
thanks to special sliding seals.

Sky-Frame 2 Sky-Frame 2 is the most popular Sky-Frame technology

thanks to its outstanding soundproofing and thermal
insulation standard. The 30 mm thick double insulated
glass units are suitable for many different climate zones.

Sky-Frame 3 The Sky-Frame 3 technology meets the highest of

standards with its 54 mm thick insulated glass units.
Sky-Frame 3 sliding windows can therefore also be used in
the passive house area and have been certified as
MINERGIE ® and MINERGIE-P ® module windows.

System introduction

Method of operation

Operation Operation of the sliding elements is simple and reliable.

The narrow handle that is integrated in the locking profile is

effortlessly pushed upwards and thus unlocked. Now the
sliding element can be opened.

The system is locked in the reverse order, whereby the

sliding element locks automatically.

A locking catch is optionally available that keeps the handle

raised until it is deliberately lowered again, therefore
preventing you from locking yourself out accidentally.

The locking handle is also available with a cylinder and a

key, and can be positioned either inside or outside.

Labyrinth The narrow mullions of Sky-Frame are known as labyrinth,

because they engage with each other.

If a sliding element is moved, the vertical labyrinths move

along the glasses.

Centre opening The centre opening mullions make it possible for a

Sky-Frame system to be opened from the middle. This
makes it possible to have openings in the middle or at
corners.

If a sliding element is moved, the vertical mullions move

apart.

System introduction

Element position

Track covers Open track chambers that are not required are closed off
with clip-in covering strips.

This also prevents dirt from accumulating (e.g. leaves).

Element position The open track chambers are dependent on the

configuration of the elements.

1st example:
Corner system with freely movable sliding elements

In the corner system pictured on the left (3 track system),

all sliding elements can be moved, either towards the wall
(open corner) or towards the corner (wall-side openings).

Since all of the tracks are required, no covers have been

clipped in here.

2nd example:
Corner system with exterior cover strips and drive.

This corner system has a fixed element at each wall side,

behind which the sliding elements can be positioned.

Since the outer tracks are not needed, all outer chambers
can be closed off with cover strips.

The position of the sliding elements also makes it possible

for the inner tracks to be equipped with an electric drive.

System introduction

No threshold

No threshold Measures necessary for proper building physical

construction of a threshold-free detail are implemented in
the sophisticated Sky-Frame bottom detail without
compromise:

- drainage level with a reliable outward water drainage

is integrated in the profile

- bottom profile provides a large surface for a safe

application of sealing sheets

- detail, which is met by the swiss standard SIA 271,

secures the rapid and controlled drainage of even the
heaviest rain volume

- consistent thermal separation of warm / cold shells by the

optimal placement and development of the polyamide
middle bar

- various system gutters with stainless steel (inox) covers

- easy to clean (without deep ditches or tracks)

Barrier-free construction Smooth transitions and barrier-free accessibility are non-

age related characteristics in the construction.

The barrier-free accessibility standard in the building

according to standard DIN 18040-1+2 has an increasing
significance alone in view of the increasing proportion of
elderly in the population.

A single sliding wing already provides a generous passage,

and therefore also provides sufficient room to move for
accompanied wheelchair users.

The electric drive is an additional convenience feature for

this target group. It is used in retirement and nursing
homes with great success.

Be it wheelchair or pram - threshold-free details provide

maximum mobility.

System introduction

Thermal separation

gnunnerT ehcsimreht %001

Thermal The consistent thermal separation guarantees the highest

separation thermal insulation values.

The middle bar, which essentially consists of polyamide,

connects the inner and the outer aluminum shell torsion
free and keeps them thermally separated at the same time.

The aluminum cover of the middle bar is interrupted in the

area of the mullions and is thermally separated and sealed
by a special insert.

The U-profiles made from glass-fibre reinforced epoxy

resin, which are attached all around the glass, optimally
insulate the glass edge.

Building connections Sky-Frame can fully utilize its advantages due to perfect
9002.11.20
building physical solutions for the integration in the
construction.

A selective mounting system that does not impair the

insulation, is therefore used instead of a continuous
substructure in the base area. This reliably prevents the
development of condensation at this point.

The heat loss is extremely reduced even in winter

temperatures by using highly insulating glass.

An additional reduction in the heating costs is simultanely

achieved by the passive use of solar energy.

Sky-Frame therefore closes the gap between comfort and

environmental awareness.

The new, highly insulated system Sky-Frame 3 meets the

requirements as MINERGIE ® + MINERGIE-P ® module
window and received each the certificate as the first metal
sliding window.

The excellent thermal insulation and air tightness values

are thereby officially confirmed.

Energy efficient refurbishment With the replacement of an old window front

(U g = 3.3 W/m 2K) by a Sky-Frame 3 sliding window
(U g = 0.7 W/m 2K), about 1’000 liters of fuel oil, or more
than 3 tons of CO 2 per year are saved (reference = 40m²).

Burglary protection

Burglary protection Even the standard model of Sky-Frame offers excellent

burglary protection - including the system-based bonding
of the GRP profiles with insulating glass and multipoint
locking.

Sky-Frame offers the following options to increase the

burglary protection:

mechanical measures

In order to further increase the burglary protection,

Sky-Frame uses special laminated glass (P4A), reinforced
frame profiles and additional fittings for the multi-point
locking integrated in the slim profile.

It is operated by the same shapely handles, into which an

additional locking cylinder is installed.

All fittings and components used to increase the burglary

protection adjust to the filigree design without affecting the
aesthetics.

The ift Rosenheim certifies Sky-Frame as having an

approved burglary protection up to a height of 4m with
the above-mentioned additional components:

System introduction

Bullet-proofing + Hurricane

Bullet-proofing Bullet-proofing is made possible with Sky-Frame 3 Gun by

using special safety insulating glass (2-IV with bullet-proof
glass), frame profiles and vertical profiles with additional
reinforcement and defined building connections.

The Armasuisse test institute in Thun has certified the

Sky-Frame 3 Gun system in the classification up to:

Class FB 4, NS
(EN 1522, EN 1523, EN 1063)

FB 4 = shot from 5 metres, calibre .357 and .44 Magnum

NS = no splinters on the inside

All possible opening variations were tested.

Hurricane For hurricane-threatened regions, various hurricane tests

were performed and passed.

In spite of the large glass surfaces, the hurricane version of

Sky-Frame passes all of the required tests, such as impact
with 50x100 mm squared timber, L=3 m, v=25 m/s and
subsequent wind load test (pressure= +/- 2‘400 Pa,
9‘000 cycles).

According to the Architectural Testing (ATI) test laboratory,

York, PA, Sky-Frame 2 achieves:

Class AW-PG50 with hurricane

(ASTM E 1886 + 1996, TAS 201 + 203)

The increased resistance to heavy rain is achieved by

means of components that are invisibly installed in the
base profile.

System introduction

Anti-fall protection

Anti-fall protection Unlike balustrade windows, floor to ceiling glass windows

on the upper floors must guarantee the anti-fall protection.

Sky-Frame uses an anti-fall insulating glass combination of

laminated safety glass (LSG) starting on the first floor and
tempered safety glass with heat soak test (TSG-H). Using
this anti-fall glass, Sky-Frame was tested by the Munich
University of Applied Sciences and has been certified the
anti-fall protection class:

Category A
(in compliance to TRAV / TRLV)

This test also covers partially open systems. A wing can

therefore also be opened 11 cm without any anti-fall
components for ventilation purposes (with integrated
opening limiter).

Litefront ® by Sky-Frame A prerequisite for the anti-fall protection on terraces and

all-glass balustrades balconies is a balustrade.

The proven Litefront ® all-glass balustrade meets this

requirement and uses a heavy-duty, anti-fall glass without
an interrupting handrail (country-specific).

The resulting, largely invisible glass strip transitions

seamlessly into the Sky-Frame glass, provides unrestricted
views and additionally fulfills the aspect of total security.

The Munich University of Applied Sciences confirms the

all-glass balustrade with a thin handrail profile anti-fall
protection class:

Category B
(in compliance to TRAV / TRLV)

The glass is held by an especially developed substructure,

which offers the possibility of numerous building connection
options.

System introduction

Ventilation and insect protection

Trickle vent When airing during the summer, doors are usually open for
insects – not with Sky-Frame.

The trickle vent is already integrated as a standard

function.

The sliding elements are locked in place at a second

locking position where continuous exchange of air is
provided.

The still interlocking profiles ensure that neither rain nor

unwanted visitors can enter.

Night ventilation In order to safely ventilate on facades without balustrades,

there is a night ventilation gap with an integrated opening
limiter.

The opening of the sliding window is limited to 11 cm in

order to guarantee the anti-fall protection and prevent
unwanted access. This version is ideal for the airing of
children's rooms or bedrooms and is provided with an
additional, extendable insect screen, upon request.

Insect screens The latest development is an insect screen that can be

pulled out sidewards of the wall.

Sky-Frame Fly offers the possibility to use a sliding element

hidden in the wall as a large-scale, insect-free vent
opening.

When closed, it is invisible due to the recessed mounting

in the wall.

The insect screen can be continuously extended up to 1 m

and does not require a bottom or soffit track.

The flowing space and the barrier-free accessibility

therefore are maintained.

It is the perfect insect screen, also for patio doors.

System introduction

Electric drive

Electric drive Sky-frame sliding windows can be equipped with an

invisible built-in electric drive in the top profile upon
request.

The wings are moved using a special gear-belt drive

integrated in the frame. The wings are automatically
unlocked when opened and re-locked when closed.

Manual operation is possible irrespective of the drive. The

opening option is thereby guaranteed at any time, even at
power failures.

The start-up and maintenance of the drive module are

carried out directly through the frame profile. Maintenance
openings with ugly covers in the floor or the ceiling are not
required.

The powered sliding windows are generally positioned on

the inner tracks.

Operation:

In addition to the classic single wing opening, it is also

possible to move several wings together.

Middle or corner openings can be made, also as telescopic

corner openings.

The entire system and corners open up variably by

pressing a button – providing unique operating
convenience.

Huge fronts can be opened at once - with the push of only

one button.

This is provided by a so called “dead man's switch”,

which means that the wing moves only while the button is
pressed.

Depending on the pressure sequence, the wings can be

opened and closed individually or all at once.

Controlling via a remote control with an active infrared

monitoring system is also possible as an option.

Systems

Systems Combination and opening options for the Sky-Frame

technologies are introduced in this chapter.

Sky-Frame Classic In addition to the timeless aesthetics, the name of the

straight Classic glazing also stands for development
history.

Classic is the basic Sky-Frame system. It consists of

straight sliding and fixed elements which can be freely
aligned next to each other. Corners and various pocket
door solutions are also possible. As well as engaging
labyrinths, centre openings are also possible.

Sky-Frame Slope The sliding windows slope either inwards or outwards with
Slope. The system allows you to design a special room
geometry.

The special mounting compensates for all vertical and

horizontal forces and therefore provides convenient running
characteristics. The special system drainage also works
against the slope and fulfils all requirements with regard to
resistance to heavy rain.

Sky-Frame Arc The curved sliding elements of Sky-Frame Arc allow you to
give the living space organic shapes.

The curved glazing can be moved with convenient running

characteristics and can be equipped with an electric drive
if required.

The system fulfils all of the standards of Sky-Frame and

provides additional design freedom as an element of
contemporary architecture.

Features All three Sky-Frame systems can be combined with

different features such as insect screens, an electric drive,
additional burglary protection or alarm monitoring.

Sloping systems

Sloping systems An inclined version of the filigree Sky-Frame sliding

windows is available.

Large, sloping systems that can be opened can be realised

with a deviation of up to 20° from the vertical, sloping

The specially developed mounting via the rollers integrated

in the soffit at the top and in the base via a narrow linear
guide with linear ball bearings at the bottom, takes over the
vertical and horizontal force caused by the slope.

The weight of the glass is led away via special standard

brackets that are adapted to the slope.

Leichte Laufeigenschaften
Die speziell für Sky-Frame Slope
entwickelte Lagerung übernimmt
sämt liche vertikalen und horizontalen
Kräfte. Das Resultat: leichte Lauf-
eigenschaften. Auch entgegen der
Neigung erfüllt die Systement-
wässerung die hohen Ansprüche
an die Schlagregendichtheit.

The system drainage meets the considerable demands of

resistance to driving rain, also against the slope.

Sky-Frame 1

Information concerning scope

Sound insulation

Sound insulation The sound insulation values are area-dependent. The

evaluated sound reduction R w,P must be reduced on the
basis of the window area (EN 14351-1 Tab. B3).
This value is used for the CE labelling.

Area reduction: up to 11.55m 2 = - 0 dB

11.55-15.4m 2 = -1 dB
15.4-19.25m 2 = -2 dB
>19.25m 2 = -3 dB

In order to determine the actual sound insulation value R A

the previously reduced value is reduced by the spectrum
P = test element size adaptation value C or C tr (depending on the situation).

Depending on the choice that is made, the actual sound

insulation value is referred to as:
R A = R w+C oder R A,tr = R w+C tr

For the maximum area always calculate 2 panels together.

Example 2-panel element: 1x sliding + 1x fixed panel

Width of elements: each 2.1m (2x2.1=4.2m) x height 2.5m

Test value glass: R w,P,Glas = 39 dB (LSG 12-2)

Test value frame*: R w,P (C, C tr) = 37 (-1; -2) dB

* = Frame in installed state with test glass

according to EN ISO 10140-1+2 and EN ISO 717-1

Window area: Aw = 10.5m 2 (2-panels together)

Area reduction: since the area Aw < 11.55m 2 → -0 dB

Sound reduction for CE labelling:

R w(A) = 37 -0 dB (-1; -2) → Rw(A) = 37 (-1; -2) dB

Example 1: Location highway → Choice: C = -1 dB

R A = R w(A) + C = 37 + (-1) → R A = 36 dB

Example 2: Location airport → Choice: C tr = -2 dB

R A,tr = R w(A) + C tr = 37 + (-2) → R A,tr = 35 dB

Prerequisites - 2-track system

- at least half of the area as fixed elements
- corner or centre openings are not tested

Terms of use
Wet rooms (pool) with alarm and el. drives

Systems in wet rooms (pool) Sky-Frame sliding windows can be used in wet rooms such
as swimming pools / in the pool area.

Multi-track systems are possible with Sky-Frame 1 with the

sliding elements on the inner or outer track, provided that
the following usage conditions are met.

Conditions for use in wet rooms:

- Use of Sky-Frame 1 in wet rooms (pool) only possible to a

limited extent (climate-dependent = only southern countries
where temperature never drops below 5°C: T min > +5°C)

- Systems in wet rooms must have a permanent inside

warm / dry air curtain

- Surfaces for wet rooms / near the sea:

anodized layer thickness: 25my

powder-coated systems: with pre-anodizing

Wet rooms + alarm components Alarm components can be used in wet rooms, as long as
the following usage conditions are met:

- All cable-carrying tubes must be sealed vapour-proof on site

Wet rooms + electric drive Sliding elements with drive are only permitted on the inner
tracks due to the system (never on the outmost track).

Tests in a climatic test chamber have shown that no

condensation develops in the drive box due to the
additional sealing measures:

- Drive box must be insulated all around

- Additional placement of a special sealing insert in the

drive housing by the factory

- All cable-carrying tubes must be sealed vapour-proof on site

Statics
Structural statics tables

Profile dimensions The profile dimensions are based on the following influence
factors:

Element height (H), effective width (B), wind load (q)

The effective width, which the wind affects, is combined

from half the left and right field width.

The effective width (axis-axis) for symmetric field widths

equals one wing width.

Wind loads The tables show graphs for four wind loads:

q = 0.5 kN/m 2
q = 0.9 kN/m 2
q = 1.3 kN/m 2
q = 2.0 kN/m 2

They are dependent on the wind zone, depending on the

building location, the terrain situation, building height,
building form and the building situation.

The actual wind loads must be clarified in advance.

Profile selection Wing sizes that are below the corresponding profile type
curve meet the structural statics requirements.

The maximum dimensions of the glasses are:

Sliding elements: W x H = max. 3.15m x 4m (max. 8m2)
Fixed elements: W x H = max. 3.15m x 4m (max. 12.6m2)

The designation +CFK means that the profile combination

is reinforced with additional carbon fibre strips and can
therefore resist higher wind loads.

Note The statics diagrams do not replace the project-specific

structural statics calculations. The country-specific
standards apply.

Building physics
Uw value + standards (SIA / EN)

U w value tables The following tables show the calculated U w values

(thermal transmittance coefficient of the overall window)
of some elements in various sizes and with different glass
types.

These values are calculated from the thermal transmittance

coefficient of the glass (U g) and the frame (U f). They are
related to size (see tables).

SIA 331 The net area - that is, the outside clear wall opening -
is calculated in the U w value in accordance with the
Swiss standard SIA 331.

This is the comparison value for other window systems.

EN 10077 U w values calculated according to standard EN 10077-1+2

take into account the gross surface area - that is the entire
frame.

This value, for example, must be consulted for MINERGIE ®

and MINERGIE-P ® verifications and in the EU.

Difference The calculation of the U w values is based on the standards:

SIA 331 (projection area of outside clear wall opening)

EN 10077-1+2 (projection frame outer dimensions)

Sky-Frame 2 Slope

Building physics
Uw value, slope-dependent

U w value The slope of the glazing increases the U g value of the

slope-dependent insulating glass. The change is so great that it may not be
neglected when the thermal protection of buildings is being
calculated. The effect of double insulating glass is greater
than that of triple insulating glass.

The cause of the increase in the U value is convection in

the gap between the panes. The slope of the glass
increases the heat transport.

Test value glass: R w,P,Glas = 39 dB (8-2/14/6)

Test value frame*: R w,P (C, C tr) = 39 (-2; -6) dB

* = Frame in installed state with test glass

according to EN ISO 10140-1+2 and EN ISO 717-1

Window area: Aw = 10.5m 2 (2-panels together)

Area reduction: since the area Aw < 11.55m 2 → -0 dB

Sound reduction for CE labelling:

R w(A) = 37 -0 dB (-2; -6) → Rw(A) = 37 (-2; -6) dB

Example 1: Location highway → Choice: C = -1 dB

R A = R w(A) + C = 37 + (-2) → R A = 35 dB

Example 2: Location airport → Choice: C tr = -2 dB

R A,tr = R w(A) + C tr = 37 + (-6) → R A,tr = 31 dB

Prerequisites - 2-track system

- at least half of the area as fixed elements
- corner or centre openings are not tested

Terms of use
Wet rooms (pool) with alarm and el. drives

Systems in wet rooms (pool) Sky-Frame sliding windows can be used in wet rooms such
as swimming pools / in the pool area.

Multi-track systems are possible with Sky-Frame 2 with the

sliding elements on the inner or outer track, provided that
the following usage conditions are met.

Conditions for use in wet rooms:

- Use of Sky-Frame 2 in wet rooms (pool) only possible to a

limited extent (climate-dependent = only southern countries
where temperature never drops below 0°C: T min > +0°C)

Wind loads The tables show graphs for four wind loads:

q = 0.5 kN/m 2
q = 0.9 kN/m 2
q = 1.3 kN/m 2
q = 2.0 kN/m 2

2.3m x 4m (max.

Insulation glass

Glass dimensioning The glass is dimensioned on the basis of the following

influential factors:

Element height, glass width, wind load, purpose of use

(anti-fall protection, increased burglary, glass breakage
sensor, sound insulation, bathrooms / pool)

The maximum dimensions of the glasses are:

Sliding elements: W x H = max. 2.3m x 4m (max. 8 m2)
Fixed elements: W x H = max. 3.15m x 4m (max. 12.6 m2)

Maximum aspect ratio of the glass:

Sliding elements: W x H = max. 1:5
Fixed elements: W x H = max. 1:10

Square glasses with side ratio W : H = 0.8 to 1.2 with no

warranties on increased running properties through glass
distortion and glass contact between the panes.

Designations The following designations are used:

(ESG-H = TSG-H / VSG = LSG / TVG = HS)

Coatings: q Wind load [kN/m 2]

Ug Thermal transmission of the glass [W/m 2K]
Lt Light transmission [%]
Heat protection g Energy transmission [%]
g (a) / g (i) g (a) = LSG outside / g (i) = LSG inside
ESG-H Tempered safety glass with heat-soak test
Sun protection VSG-F Laminated glass made from 2x float glass
VSG-WG Laminated glass from 2x low iron glass
VSG-TVG Lam.glass from 2x heat strengthened (HS) glass
Sun protection «Plus» P4A LSG-glass with 4 laminated films for RC2
P (Phono) L SG with special sound insulation films -> R w,P,Glas
R w,P,Glas Sound insulation factor of the glass [dB]
R w,P (C,C tr) Sound insulation factor of the whole system [dB]

Delivery For sun protection «Plus», fixed corner glazings, model

slices or special glasses with glass breakage sensor
increased delivery times have to be expected.

Glass placement Because of thermal shock / tension-cracks as a result of

partial shading, partially opened panels, climate stress
and/or interior shading (heat accumulation) it is extremely
important for the panes of glass that are used (as shown in
the diagrams) to be placed in the correct positions relative
to each other!

The Lt and g-factor could differ around 2% due to

production tolerances.

G = Glass

Sky-Frame 3 Slope

Building physics
Uw value, slope-dependent

U w value The slope of the glazing increases the U g value of the

slope-dependent insulating glass. The change is so great that it may not be
neglected when the thermal protection of buildings is being
calculated. The effect of double insulating glass is greater
than that of triple insulating glass (3-IG).

The cause of the increase in the U value is convection in

the gap between the panes. The slope of the glass
increases the heat transport.

Test value glass: R w,P,Glas = 41 dB (8-2/16/6/16/6)

Test value frame*: R w,P (C, C tr) = 38 (-2; -7) dB

* = Frame in installed state with test glass

according to EN ISO 10140-1+2 and EN ISO 717-1
44 dB - Note: (SG-37 / 47 / 57)
The special soundproofing version of Window area: Aw = 10.5m 2 (2-panels together)
Sky-Frame 3, with which the test Area reduction: since the area Aw < 11.55m 2 → -0 dB
value R w,P = 44 dB was achieved,
requires the following modifications: Sound reduction for CE labelling:
- Brushes with foil R w(A) = 38 -0 dB (-2; -7) → Rw(A) = 38 (-2; -7) dB
- Felt head running gears only
- Exterior handle profile without flange Example 1: Location highway → Choice: C = -2 dB
- Covers are equipped with heavy foil R A = R w(A) + C = 38 + (-2) → R A = 36 dB
(not visible)
- Additional sealing measures Example 2: Location airport → Choice: C tr = -7 dB
R A,tr = R w(A) + C tr = 38 + (-7) → R A,tr = 31 dB

Prerequisites - 2-track system

- at least half of the area as fixed elements
- corner or centre openings are not tested

®
and general use of renewable energy sources whilst
improving quality of life, ensuring that the product is
competitive and reducing the burden on the environment at
the same time.

The specific energy consumption is considered to be a

major influential factor in quantifying the required building
quality. A reliable evaluation is therefore provided.

Building in accordance with the MINERGIE ® standard

means:

high level of thermal comfort:

- higher surface temperature
- no cold radiation / draughts
- protection from overheating in summer

value retention:
- high level of building quality
- more added value

energy cost saving:

- fewer kilowatt hours
- therefore compensation for additional construction costs
- protection of environment and climate

Can Sky-Frame be installed in a Yes.

MINERGIE ® house? Installing the tested and certified sliding window system
Sky-Frame 3 means that all of the advantages of the
MINERGIE ® standard can be achieved.

Can Sky-Frame be installed in a Yes.

MINERGIE-P ® house? The combination of the outstanding thermal insulation
characteristics and the extremely good (and tested)
resistance to heavy rain and air permeability means that
adherence to the MINERGIE-P ® limit (weighted energy
code over the entire building shell) can be achieved with
Sky-Frame.

MINERGIE® and Sky-Frame

Questions and answers

What does The MINERGIE-P ® standard designates and qualifies

MINERGIE-P ® mean? buildings that are attempting to achieve even lower energy
consumption than MINERGIE ®.

A house that is intended to meet the extremely strict

requirements of MINERGIE-P ® is consistently planned as
an overall system and all of its parts with this goal in mind,
built, and the operation thereof is optimised.

As well as the building shell being extremely airtight and

air replacement being provided via comfort ventilation, an
important point is achieving the primary demand that is
made of the building shell (thermal insulation).

What does MINERGIE-ECO ® is an addition to the MINERGIE ® and

MINERGIE-ECO ® / P-ECO ® mean? MINERGIE-P ® standards. A prerequisite for MINERGIE-
ECO ® certification is a consistent design in accordance
with MINERGIE ® or MINERGIE-P ®.

MINERGIE-ECO ® buildings meet the requirements for a

healthy and ecological design.

Sky-Frame can be categorised as an ecologically

interesting product because of its long service life,
the low proportion of frame with optimum daylight situation
and the potential for recycling.

Sustainability The money that is saved by way of energy costs is well

invested in the building structure. And it is cost-effective
over the entire service life of the building and installations.
The effect is even greater if energy prices go up.

Classification
Passive house

Passive house A passive house is a building in which a comfortable

temperature can be reached in summer and in winter with a
minimal heating / air conditioning system. Thanks to the
wind-proof, extremely thermally insulated building shell the
passive house guarantees that the warm indoor air remains in
the building. In addition, highly insulating triple-glazed
insulation glass (3-IV) prevents thermal outflow, but also has
the feature of letting precious solar energy into the building
and store it in the rooms and walls due to their high energy
transmittance (high g-value).

Prerequisite for a successful passive house project

is careful planning and detailed design in the building
construction and building services, a concept for optimal
airtightness, and the effort for low power and water
consumption.

Criteria -) Triple insulation glazing

(Germany) -) Heating energy value ≤ 15 kWh/m 2a
-) Primary energy value for the sum of all applications
≤ 120 kWh/m 2a
-) Air-tight building shell with a pressure test parameter of
n 50 (50 Pa over / under pressure) ≤ 0.6 h -1 (air exchange)

Thermal insulation Sky-Frame 3 achieves excellent thermal insulation values

window U w as follows, depending on the geometry and the thermal
insulation U g of the insulating glass:

U w = 0.8 - 1.0 W/m 2K (acc. to EN, with U g = 0.5 W/m 2K)

The required energy characteristics can be achieved with

these values.

Air permeability The certified air permeability of Sky-Frame 3, at a

differential pressure of Δp = 50 Pa is:

V L = 0.2 m 3/hm related to the joint length (TE* = 9.96 m)

VA = 0.1 m 3/hm 2 relative to the surface (TE* = 13.37 m 2)

The air permeability can be guaranteed, dependent on the

proportion of glazing on the building shell.

*TE = test element: fixed-sliding, W x H = 4195 x 3187mm

corner or centre openings are not tested

Wind loads The tables show graphs for four wind loads:

q = 0.5 kN/m 2
q = 0.9 kN/m 2
q = 1.3 kN/m 2
q = 2.0 kN/m 2

2.3m x 4m (max.

Sky-Frame Guard

Increased burglary protection

Increased burglary protection Even the standard model of Sky-Frame offers excellent
burglary protection - including the system-based bonding
of the GRP profiles with insulating glass and multipoint
locking.

Additional components The following additional components must be fitted in a

Sky-Frame 2 system with increased burglary protection
requirements RC2 (WK2):

- Glass lifting protection

- Fixed panel securing
- Edge opening fitting
- Corner opening fitting
- Centre opening (level) fitting
- Centre opening (offset) locking plate
- Fixed corner glazing with GRP-profile
- Laminated glass (LSG) with special PVB films (P4A)

IMPORTANT:
Only lockable handles are permitted!

Installation At least 3 fixing points must be present in the vertical

direction.

The fixing point spacing of 700mm must not be exceeded

in the horizontal direction.

The surrounding walls must be designed according to

norm EN 1627*.

Class The ift Rosenheim certifies both Sky-Frame systems with

these additional components as having an approved
burglary protection up to the maximum sizes:

Resistance class RC2 (WK2)

(EN 356 and EN V 1627-1630)

*NOTE The country-specific standards apply.

Alarm monitoring
Position / Deadbolt

Position monitoring This alarm component is used to monitor the position of the
(P) sliding panels. The magnetic contact and the disk magnet
are pre-installed in the frame profile and the door profile of
the panel that is being protected.

The magnetic contact is kept closed by the magnetic field

of the permanent magnet. If the distance between the two
parts is increased, the influence of the magnetic field is
weakened. The magnetic contact then opens and interrupts
the closed circuit.

Position monitor can be directly connected to a burglar alarm.

Cable length = 10m (can be extended)

VdS class: B (corresponds to WK4 / EN 50131-1 Grade 3)

Deadbolt monitoring All locking profiles (shutters) can be equipped with a

(R) deadbolt monitor. The signal is transmitted by the
transmitter unit integrated in the frame.

Lifting the handle operates a switch contact that

interrupts the electrical circuit and therefore the inductive
transmission.

A signal is generated when the lock is opened (lifted). If the

door is moved, the transmission unit leaves the inductive
zone and permanently interrupts the transmission. This
means that position monitoring is also provided.

The deadbolt monitor requires a customer-provided

processing unit (AWE), to which up to four alarm
components can be connected.

Cable length until AWE ≤ 6m (cannot be extended!)

VdS class: C (corresponds to WK5 / EN 50131-1 Grade 4)

Possible combinations:
- Deadbolt monitoring also fulfills position monitoring
- Deadbolt monitoring can NOT be combined with el.drives

Alarm monitoring
Glass breakage

Glass breakage sensor Sky-Frame 2+3 is equipped with alarm glass that can be
(G) used in sliding and fixed panels.

The screen printed metal circuit is protected in the gap

between the panes on surface 2 and is always positioned
in the top left-hand or the right-hand corner (depending on
the installation situation).

Fixed panel: In the event of an attack with subsequent destruction of the

outer pane of glass (tempered safety glass), it disintegrates
into a large number of small fragments. This also interrupts
the conductive screen printed metal circuit in several
locations, causing the electrical circuit to be interrupted.
This is detected by the connected burglar alarm, and an
alarm is triggered.

Glass breakage sensor with fixed panel:

The alarm glass connecting cable is connected to the cable

in the frame via a plug-in connection, and is therefore
directly connected to the burglar alarm.

Cable length = 10m (can be extended)

VdS class: C (corresponds to WK5 / EN 50131-1 Grade 4)

Sliding panel: Glass breakage sensor with sliding panel:

Transmission takes place via an transmitter unit that is

integrated in the frame at the top. In the event of glass
breakage or door movement, the circuit is interrupted.

A customer-provided processing unit (AWE), to which up to

four alarm components can be connected is needed to
evaluate the signal.

Cable length until AWE ≤ 6m (cannot be extended!)

VdS class: C (corresponds to WK5 / EN 50131-1 Grade 4)

Possible combinations:
- Glass breakage sensor also fulfills position monitoring
- Glass breakage sensor can be combined with deadbolt
monitoring
- Glass breakage sens. can NOT be combined with el.drives

Sky-Frame 3 Gun

Bullet-proofing

Bullet-proofing Bullet-proofing is made possible with Sky-Frame 3 GUN by

using special safety insulating glass (2-IV with bullet-proof
glass), frame profiles and vertical profiles with additional
reinforcement and defined building connections.

The Armasuisse test institute in Thun has certified the

Sky-Frame Gun system in the classification up to:

Class FB 4, NS
(EN 1522, EN 1523, EN 1063)

FB 4 = shot from 5 metres, calibre .357 and .44 Magnum

NS = no splinters on the inside

All possible openings were tested.

Prerequisites - Sky-Frame 3, 2-track only

- Glass: 2-IV (Ug=1.0), max. W x H = 2 x 4m
- Glass breakage monitoring (G) possible, RC2 based on
