Introduction

Since the dawn of the millennium, technology has transformed and robots are now being

used to develop critical functions allowing them to be substituted for humans in everyday tasks.

Using robots continues to transform different sectors of our daily life such as the healthcare,

education and industrial sectors. At first, they were mainly based in laboratories and factories, Commented [G1]: Inserted: il

but now they are being used everywhere because they are performing tasks at high speed than

humans. Using them reveals that they have a positive influence on the humans and society but

overusing them also has some adverse side effects. Therefore, to have a better understanding of

the importance of robots to human life and community, it will be important to outline some

recent developments in robotics and also explain the advantages of these developments.

First, the robots, drones, and heart-detectors have helped to save lives especially when

disaster strikes. Reports show that robots having cameras and sensors have been used in many

circumstances to search for victims stranded in flooded areas. The robots can reach the affected

areas and help to assess the damage and sent back images that could be useful to the rescuers

(Wang & Zhou, 2014). They also assist in disaster recovery by providing efficient ways to save

lives and facilitating the process of rebuilding after the catastrophe. More so, drones also act as

robots since they are unmanned aerial vehicles which can preprogram surveys. The drones have

all kinds of onboard electronics that make it take pictures and pull them into a hyper-accurate

map. For instance, the PrecisionHawk drone aides the emergency responders by providing

photos of the whereabouts of the victims and also assist in knowing how to approach the relief

efforts. As the drones cruise the sky, the robots can be on the field to do groundwork by scanning

and assessing the situation. Therefore, scientists have hope that robots can help to rescue

survivors just like how humans recover and rebuild.

Second, robots have also been used in the medical field to facilitate various activities in

hospitals. The recent developments of robots in this field include the use of the Xenex Robot

which allows for efficient and fast systematic disinfection of spaces in healthcare facilities

(Greenaway, 2008). The robot is beneficial as it destroys any deadly microorganisms causing

infections in hospitals by using the ultraviolet disinfection mechanism. Also, another tremendous

robotic advancement in this field is the use of the TUG robot. It assists to do multiple tasks like

carrying around racks, carts, and bins having medications and laboratory specimen. It has a

touchscreen pot which enables it to be sent to any location to deliver the product needed then

return to its charging dock where it will be loaded for the next trip. With the TUG robot in place, Commented [G3]: Inserted: mendous

Third, the robots have also helped to take care of the elderly thus saving them from lives

of loneliness. Bear faced robots can be used to help nurse the old by assisting them to get out of

the bed in the morning more effectively. Doing so removes loneliness from the older adults since Commented [G7]: Inserted: o

Care-o-bot robot has been used in Germany to assist in ferrying foods and drinks to residents

from the kitchen and also entertains the elderly by playing memory games which keeps their

minds sharp. Therefore, even though robots are not accepted fully by the humans, they assist the

caregivers in doing tasks, and thus they have to empress using it in this sector.

Conclusion

In conclusion, robot technology has indeed impacted the human life and society in

various ways. First, it has been used by the emergency and disaster responders to save lives

during catastrophe times. They have also been used in hospitals to assist in reducing the number

of acquired infections and also to carry loads of medicine around the hospital. Moreover, the

robots have also been used to give care to the elderly thus eliminating loneliness which can cause

ailments. Therefore, it is time to empress use of robot technology since it assists in transforming

human life in many ways.
