Latest: Wasteful Mail Complains About Wasting Taxpayer $$

We’re Paying for Skelos’ Campaign

Dean Skelos is spending taxpayer money to tell taxpayers the state government is spending too
much of their money. The mailer is just the latest example of Skelos’ hypocrisy and wasteful
spending– and it landed in Nassau County mailboxes just in time for election season. (pdf

“Dean Skelos has a history of spending too much and wasting taxpayers’ money. Now he has
the nerve to make us pay for his reelection campaign. For decades he’s voted to raise taxes,
raise spending and put us deeper in debt. Enough already,” said George Sava, candidate for
State Senate in the 9th District fighting to reduce property taxes, reform Albany and rebuild the
economy. “If he’s serious about cutting waste, he should look in the mirror and reimburse the
taxpayers for his extravagant spending and this political mailer,” said George Sava.

The glossy, full color, fact-free mailer from Senator Skelos says “New York Spends too much”
– and it’s paid for at taxpayer expense. The mailer contains no information whatsoever about
specific legislation the senator has sponsored or passed. Ironically, the mailer features a photo
of empty train tracks – what the LIRR looked like last month after the breakdown of antiquated
equipment that “leader” Skelos failed to replace while he was in charge of MTA spending.

Wasting taxpayer money is nothing new for 30-year Albany insider Skelos:

· Skelos spent $1,274,354 on office expenses last year, excluding his

leadership expenses - more than any other senator. (Albany Times Union 2/2/10)

· Skelos has spent over $3.5 million in three years to run his office while the state runs
deficits and goes deeper into debt. (Times Union, Empire Center SeeThroughNY.net)

· Since 1990, Dean Skelos has voted OVER 600 TIMES to raise taxes and fees on the
people of Nassau County.

Despite his rhetoric, Dean Skelos has a long record of raising taxes, fees and wasteful
spending. Dean Skelos cannot be trusted.

George Sava is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and an attorney. He was motivated
to run out of concern for the families in Nassau County, who are being priced out of Long Island
as a result of one of the highest tax burdens in the nation. George supports real and substantial
property tax reductions and an end to the decades of waste in Albany where out-of-control
bureaucracy demands more tax dollars from Nassau County residents every year. He lives with
his wife and their three young children in Woodmere.

George served in the military for over nine years and was deployed in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom. He served as a Judge Advocate General officer and as the Senior
