I). REQUIRED
II). GIVEN
1. Platform orientation.
For Platforms –
ASD.
2. ASCE7-10
IV). CONCLUSIONS
3. Vertical Bracings are used in structure are of size ISA 125 x 75 x8.
V). SOLUTION
Refer e-mail from client; these inputs mentioned Basic wind speed as 45 m/s.
Refer subsequent sheets for engineering design inputs, sketches, and calculations of
loads and design of platform members.
Staad Model:
The steel stub columns and platform beams are modeled in STAAD Pro for Structural
analysis.
Loads are categorized as Dead Load including Equipment and Piping Loads ,Floor
Load & Hand Railing Load, Live Load, Wind Load (X, Z directions). The load
The wind loads are calculated as per ASCE7-10 and applied on respective members
1. The analysis method used for steel is Allowable Stress Design (ASD). The detailed
2. Load is distributed along the span on main load bearing members as mentioned in
the calculation.
3. Load between two members is divided equally in two parts and applied on
members as shown in the calculation.
4. Wind load is applied in accordance with depth of the section of individual members
used in framing of structure.
For ex. Depth of section ISMC200 = 0.2 m

BLC-1 Structural Dead Load and Dead Loads Due to Equipment’s / Piping [DL]
As per ASCE5-10, Clause 1.4.3 and engineering judgement base shear i.e. Fx = 0.01 Wx for
earthquake loading will be very small as compare to wind load hence earthquake load will not
govern.
