Exercise
(Chapter 2)

1. Annual rainfall depth data for three consistent gauges A, B and C and with one inconsistent gauge D.
Gauge D was relocated permanently at the end of 2006. Analyse and adjust the rainfall data for gauge
D for the period of 2004-2006 according to the rainfall characteristics at the new location.

Year Annual precipitation (mm)

A B C D
2004 22 26 23 28
2005 21 26 25 33
2006 27 31 28 38
2007 25 29 29 31
2008 19 22 23 24
2009 24 25 26 28
2010 17 19 20 22
2011 21 22 23 26

3. Stations P, Q, R, S, T and U are the nearest gauge stations of station A that was out of operation.
Precipitation amounts for P, Q, R, S, T and U are 40, 45, 37.5, 50, 47.5 and 42.5 mm. Calculate the
rainfall depth at station A with coordinates (0,0) using the quadrant method.
