Intermediate Progress Report

Jessica Hitchmough

Grade 5 – LS5

Reading – Meets Expectations

LS5 is able to identify problem and some information from texts, but struggles without support

to communicate this information. Finding specific details is sometimes a struggle. She completes

her work, but she often misses many details and has a hard time making inferences. Home

reading in the form of chunking may help LS5 grow in this area. It is stopping the story after a

few pages and doing a check in about what has happened in the story, important details, and

what might happen next!

Writing – Meets Expectations

LS5 can communicate surface meaning in her writing, but has troubles finding depth and

expressing detail. She often repeats herself and makes no analysis of her answers. She needs

prompting to express herself using full sentences, and often reuses the same sentence structure

throughout an assignment. She is very creative and draws whenever she can. I feel linking

drawing and writing may be a strategy I will employ to connect to LS5.

Numeracy – Meets Expectations

LS5 can identify most mathematical concept and procedures, along as it has been modeled

beforehand. She can identify simple patterns and relationship, but often struggle with problem

solving independently. She requires constant reminders to follow steps to check work and often

falls behind instead of asking for help. This leads to errors in her work, requiring self-

corrections. She just needs to take the time to do her work slowly and follow the steps to make

progress.

Social Responsibility – Meets Expectations

LS5 is always polite and kind to her peers but prefers not to socialize outside her small peer

group. She is hesitant to participate in group work or contribute in class discussions. She is never

disruptive or unkind. She is a wonder part of our class community.
