What is my Project Topic?
• Project Topic: My project topic is Three Types of Ankle Sprain Degrees
• What is it about?: My project is about discussing the three types of
ankle sprains/degrees and the recovery process for each. I will also be
discussing what has physically happened to the ankle and what are
the signs/symptoms.
• Why did I choose this topic? I chose this topic because at my
mentorship I have seen multiple ankle injuries, and have experienced
two ankle injuries myself. I find this project topic very interesting. I
hope to inform my evaluators on what I have learned this semester
on the ankle and what the degrees are.
List of Key Points

1. What is a Grade 1 Ankle Sprain?

2. What is a Grade 2 Ankle Sprain?
3. What is a Grade 3 Ankle Sprain?
4. How common are ankle sprains?
5. Signs and symptoms?
Grade 1 Ankle Sprain

ankle sprain is when the
ligaments have been
stretched, but not torn.

mobility

Within this sprain, the
ligament has been torn
completely.

walking can be painful. inflammation, and increased
mobility
• Possible surgery
reconstrucion
How common are ankle sprains?
1. Ankle injuries are often thought as sport injuries, but can still occur
from everyday activities
2. Men between 15 and 24 years old have higher rates of ankle
sprains, compared to women older than age 30 who have higher
rates than men.
3. Every day in the U.S., 25,000 people sprain their ankle.
4. More than 1 million people visit emergency rooms each year
because of ankle injuries.
5. Ultimately, the rates for experiencing an ankle sprain/injury is very
high (more common in athletic activities)
Current Event Assignment
• What is the Current Event Assignment? The current event
assignment is a assignment that is suppose to help us to
more successfully contribute knowledge to our project
choice.
• Title of Current Event: The Five Most Common Ankle
Injuries
• Why does it relate to my topic? This article relates to my
topic because it discusses various ankle injuries and
provides the recovery process for each. Although I wont
be talking about a specific injury, just the types of degrees,
I still feel this article and the overall current event
assignment has helped me learn more about the anatomy
of the human ankle. This knowledge helped me through
my project choice.

Research Slide
1. What is the recovery process for each Grade
Sprain?
2. What has happened to the ankle when this
occurs?
3. What are the signs/symptoms to these
degrees(sprains)?
4. Are ankle injuries quite common in both men and
women?
Product

For my product I designed an exercise

flow chart of a few exercises that take
place during a patients physical therapy
sessions on a word document.
Conclusion

•I have learned so many different things over

this past year such as medical terms,
ligaments, bones, and about the overall life
of a physical therapist. I hope to continue to
learn more about the anatomy of the
human body in college.
Thank You Slide
• I have learned so much this year and I owe it all to Mrs. Click and my
mentor Monique. I would like to take a minute to thank Mrs. Click for
choosing me to be in her ISM class this year and giving me this great
opportunity. Next, I would like to say that I greatly appreciate and
thank my mentor Monique for allowing me to shadow her and for
showing me what the life of a physical therapist was really like. This
experience has really helped me realize that I want to become a
physical therapist in the future and major in Exercise Science in
college. I would like to also thank my parents for always pushing me
to the next level and for making me the person I am today.
