NESPAK ‘ORANGE LINE METRO RAIL
PROJECT
INTRODUCTION
“The Viaduct bt Lahoce Orange Ine Metro project consists of U-Shaped simply supported girders
resting upon the piers which are gener “The viaduct system is supported on piles ver! Lu
‘and ple caps substructure system, The 1.8m tick pile cap consists of 6 ples of 1.2m clometer
and piles are 18m long (for Auger boring method). Plers of viaduct are generally 2990mm
ddameters. The height of piers is generally 13.5m, A 10m fong transom rests over the tep of
piers to suppor the U shaped girs,

Concemns have been shown regarding the effects of vibration due to passege of train on the
heritage buldings that exist along the Orange line.
Five sites have been identifed among the heritage sites listed below:~
4. Shalamar Garden
2 Gulabi Bagh’s Tomb
— Budduls Tomb ‘ i
4. Chaburi
5. Zalb un Nisa’s Tomb
‘This document presents the results of vbcation analysis of Viaduct system due to the passage
fof tein and its effect on the nearby structures.
2 FEA MODEL,
'A 2ecimensional model is prepared using structural analysis program SAP2000, with the
objective of wiretion tne ristory analyse of the Viaduct, The model consits of pie, pile cap,
the ples and surrounding soll, Allhe materials in the model are modelled as elastic materia,
‘The thickness of 2D model is Kept a6 1m, The out of plane thickness ofthe piles, pile cap and
the pier are proportioned based on the calibration of mode! with the 3D model of viaduct, The
time period of the Fler in the 3D model is oasérved to be around 1.1 sec, The out of plane
thickness ofthe plese adjusted so tht the 2D model provided similar fundamental time period
(1.27 see for 20 model. Sines the soils modelled as an elastic material (@ very simpitying
assumption), the model had to be calibrated to the 3D model for similar vertical deformations
“The modulus of elastioty ofthe sol material is adjusted so that the vertical deflection of 8.8 mm
that is observed in the A viaeuet model is obtained from the 2D model, The model was
calibrated at modal sty of 2000MPa for ei for which the vertical deflecion under the

“The vertical force time history atthe top of pier 's determined from the dynamic train model of
‘Xia at el 2004, The dynamic model of train used is presented in gure 4.
“The model is based on the principle of model superposition end the deflection at any section
can ke expressed as
In whion the rih modal equation cen be expressed as

“The model had folowing assumptions
1. The vehicle car body consist. two rt pars hinged together.
2. Eflocs ofthe elastic deformations of ar toes and whee sets are neclected
3. The vehicle is simplified into the single-level suspension system. The spring stiness
and damping caefcient of «bogie are shared cut among is whee sts,

With reference to the letter subject “Construction of Orange line metro train Service —
Implementation of Antiquities Act 1975", through which some apprehensions are expresses
regarding the effects of worations due to high speed Orange line tain on heritage structures.

According to the Geman Standard DIN 4150 Part 3-1999 “Structural Vieration In Buildings”
the maximum vibration velocity at the foundation level of the heritage stnicture shall be less
than 8mmjsee. Maximum acceleration levels of 0.006 mis2 are generally considered acceotaale
{for humen comfort during night
