6/8 Last Day of School
A Peek at next Week…
Math: We will continue to review math skills taught throughout the year to bring them to
the forefront next week! We have spiraled the skills within the Weekly Math and the Ten
Minute Math daily! The students will be engaged in lessons that are review of previously
taught skills and will end class each day by taking 6 practice questions. The practice
questions are off from a MOCK EOG and will be used as the final formal grade in math. I
will send this home for an extra review when we are finished. I continue to stress daily to
read carefully, use the CUBES strategy, and show your work. Students are realizing that
if problems are being missed it is due to lack of focus or thoroughly reading the question to
show all the work required. Slowing down and working through the problem step by step
will improve the quality of student work.

Reading: We continue reviewing our reading standards. This week, we will focus on text
features, and vocabulary. Vocabulary is a major component on the EOG, so students will
review context clues, word substitution, and using word parts. This is reinforced in
homework this week as well. Students are still participating in daily reading marathons to
build stamina. We are also working on test taking strategies that students will be
expected to continue using during the EOG. Students are reflecting on which strategies are
helping them. This is so important! When they see the immediate benefits, the work
becomes more meaningful to them because they can see how it helps. It’s not just
something their teacher asks them to do.

If you haven’t already, view the below videos and try to incorporate them into your
conversations at home!

Writing: Students will be writing about their reading to help them process their thinking
and comprehension. Each week, they will be responsible for specific skill stop and jots that
cover a variety of reading genres.
DRESS CODE REMINDERS:
Please take the time to review the dress code and go over it with your child.
We will review it in class at the beginning of next week.
