CRITICAL INPUT MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES BY HOWARD GARDNER

In a first analysis, the intelligence is defined as the ability to generate new information that
combines with the reception of the outside with that of which we have in our memory.

Gardner breaks with the traditional scheme, giving the concept of intelligence a new meaning
when referring to a wide variety of human capacities.

According to this, almost everyone can recognize the existence of creativity in music or art, the
latest body skills, leadership or teamwork, but group all this under the same category in a political
and courageous decision. Therefore, the concept of intelligence has been restricted to the use of
language and numbers, and has been left aside to recognize, in another order of ideas, other
human capacities.

However, what are multiple intelligences?

The psychologist Howard Gardner couples the definition of multiple intelligences in the idea that
the capacities of our mind are not part of a single word called intelligence, but that many people
work in parallel and that, many times, they are ignored or eclipsed simply because we do not value
them

In his text, Gardner first, expands the field of what intelligence is and recognizes what everyone
knows intuitively, and that academic brilliance is not everything.

From my point of view, I agree with Gardner's statements, that when it comes to developing in
this life it is not enough to have a great academic record.

There are people of great intellectual capacity but unable, for example, to choose their friends
well and, on the contrary, there are less brilliant people at school who succeed in the business
world in their personal lives. Succeeding in business, or in sports, requires being smart, but in each
field using a different kind of intelligence. Not better or worse, but different. In other words,
Einstein is not smarter than Michel Jordan, because his intelligences belong to different fields.

Gardner proposed and defined seven intelligences and these are the following:

The logical-mathematical intelligence is the ability to detect patterns, think logically, reason
deductively and carry out mathematical operations. Linguistic intelligence implies the mastery of
spoken and written language to express or remember things.

These two first forms of intelligence are, in general, the capacities that a solid performance in the
measures of IQ or in the performance tests. Spatial intelligence implies the potential for
recognition and manipulation of broad-space patterns, such as negotiators for pilots or navigators,
and closed spaces such as those found by sculptors, architects or chess chess players. Musical
intelligence is the ability to recognize and compose tones, tones, rhythms and musical patterns
and use them for performance or composition.
Body-kinesthetic intelligence involves the use of body parts or the whole body to solve problems
or create products. It is likely that athletes, dancers, surgeons and craftsmen have a great capacity
for development in this area.

The last two intelligences are the personal intelligences: interpersonal and intrapersonal.
Interpersonal intelligence indicates a person's ability to recognize the intentions, feelings and
motivations of others. People who can and disarm this category are likely to work with others and
can choose fields such as sales, teaching, counseling or policies to use them. Intrapersonal
intelligence is described as the ability to understand oneself and use that information to regulate
one's life. According to Gardner, each of these seven "intelligences" has a specific set of skills that
can be observed and measured
