Homogeneity

Homogeneity test is a test of whether or not the variance of two or more distributions.
Homogeneity test which will be discussed in this paper is Homogeneity Test of Variance and
Bartlett Test. Homogeneity test is done to find out whether the data in variables X and Y are
homogeneous or not.

Homogeneity Test

What
Homogeneity Test It is a test done to determine the equal or variance of two or more
distributions. [1] Used to test whether the distribution of data from two or more variants
comes from a homogeneous population or not, by comparing two or more variances. [2]
Based on both explanations, it can be said that basically homogeneity test is intended to show
that two or more groups of sample data come from populations having the same variance.

Why
Homogeneity tests need to be done to determine whether the data in variables X and
Y are homogeneous or not in a population having the same variance. Thus, the homogeneous
data can be used for data analysis process at a later stage. Homogeneity test of variance
(variance) is needed before we compare two or more groups, so that the differences are not
caused by the difference of baseline data (non-homogeneity of the comparison group) but
based on the existing statistical calculations.

Who
Hypothesis test is done by the researcher who will test a data from a set of data
contained in the population used as research sources. When Homogeneity test is performed if
the existing data group is in the form of a normal distribution. The homogeneity test is not
necessary if two or more data groups have equal variance so that the data used is considered
homogeneous. [3]

How
To conduct a homogeneity test, it is necessary to consider the following that "we will
determine if the observed proportions in each response of the category are nearly the same for
all populations." [4] In that sense, the comparable data must have in common the overall data
taken from that population.

There are several formulas used to test the homogeneity of variance such as: F test,
Harley test, Cohran test, Levene test, and Bartlett test. However, in general the calculations
performed for the homogeneity test are widely used with the bartlett test and the fisher test (f-
test), it can be seen in the chart below: [5]

According to Sutrisna, the F test of Havley is usually used to test the homogeneity of
two groups of data distribution. The Bartlett test is usually used to test the homogeneity of
more than two sets of data. [6]

Homogeneity Test with Bartlet

Can be done by calculating the chi-square statistic, as follows: [7]

With unit price B obtained from:

With s (variance) obtained from:

Homogeneity Test with Fisher (Test - F)

By determining the largest variance versus the smallest variance. Test
homogeneity with Test-F can be calculated in the following manner: [8]
