9th grade spanish 1-verbs

5E Lesson Plan
Anthuanet Espinel
Engage- (guess what the notecard means)
In detail, explain how you are going to grab the attention of your students. This
could be something that is set up as the enter the room or a picture/video that
introduces the topic. Remember videos cannot be longer that 30 seconds. When
class starts I will pass out a stack of notecards to each table. I will instruct
students to guess what the word on the notecard means.

List any materials you will need here

The materials I will need are notecards.

Add a picture of what you are doing on this slide Comer

Explore-(explain the notecards)
Explain in detail what questions you are going to ask your students about your engage activity or explain in detail another activity you will be doing to introduce your

topic After the students have had time to try to guess what the notecards on their tables mean I will ask them
questions to introduced the different types of ending for verbs in spanish (-ar, -er, -ir).

How are you going to gage what the students already know or don’t know about the topic? For students who already know spanish I
will ask them if they can use the verb in a sentence. For the students who have no clue what I am talking about I
will introduce the verbs to them, their translation, and get started on the notes.

Add a picture of what you will be doing or list the specific questions you will be asking you students here using bullet points

The questions I will be asking students are:

● What did your table group think this verb means?

What are the different types of conjugations for verbs?
How can you conjugate the verb for “you/TU”?

Explain- (Flipbook notes)
Describe in detail a creative way in which you are going to get the information to your students. You will have to get out of your comfort zone for this

. For notes
“E.” This involves a lot of interaction with your students not just clicking through a slide show or writing everything on the board

students will create a foldable that contains the 3 verb endings we will be
working on. The first page of the foldable will contain the verb ending. The
back of that fold will contain different verbs that end in that ending and their
translations, the inside page will have the conjugations of the verb endings,
They will be following along to a powerpoint so they can fill in their flipbook.
You can explain and have the class demonstrate along with you instead of just listening to you talk and taking notes.

You can do a foldable

You can do a scavenger hunt for the information

If you make a powerpoint, limit it to 3-5 slides to keep your students interested

If you are teaching elementary school, you are not allowed to use a powerpoint to give notes.
Elaborate-(charades)
Describe in detail how you are going to ensure that your students are learning
throughout the lesson
1. Reinforcement activities

After we are done with the notes the class will play charades. I will have a
bucket of verbs and one student will come up and act out the verb. The rest
of the class will have to guess what the verb is in spanish and in english.
2. This can be during your Explain process but does not have to be- small activities to break up the notes

3. Materials needed (ex: glue, tape, etc.)

Evaluate- (Hand verbs)
Describe in detail how the students are going to show you what they have learned during the lesson

NO QUIZZES OR TESTS! Get more creative! You are better than a quiz!

I will assign each student a different verb and they will create a hand poster to hang up in class to help them for
the rest of the year. On the palm of the hand the students will write the verb, its translation, and a picture of the
verb. On each finger they will write the conjugation of the verb. For example, on the thumb they will write the YO
conjugation of the verb, on the point finger they will do the TU conjugation, on the middle finger they will do the
EL/ELLA conjugation, on the ring finger they will do the NOSOTROS(AS) conjugation, and on the pinky finger they
will do the ELLOS(AS) conjugation. On the back of the hand they will write a sentence using one of the
conjugations so I can see that they understand how to use the conjugation in a sentence (this part will not go up
for the class to see).

Materials needed (ex: glue, tape, etc.)

Materials needed are butcher paper, markers, and colored pencils

Evaluate- Exit Ticket
This is the evaluate you will actually be presenting

Describe in detail what your students must do by the end of your 30 minute lesson

For the student’s exit ticket they will write a sentence for three verbs using
the correct conjugation listed on their sheet. For example, one verb will be
comer: Ellos. The students will have to come up with a simple sentence
using the ELLOS conjugated version of comer. The sentence can be “Ellos
comen el helado.”
Post a picture of a what your exit ticket will look like. They may not write in their journal or on a scrap piece of paper. You
will create a template that goes with your lesson for them to fill out
