Lesson Narrative: The class started with a student presenting a current topic for discussion on the
issues in Syria. Students and Mr. Wigglesworth asked questions and the presenting student gave
very thorough responses. The lesson for today started with Mr. Wigglesworth having students
work in groups of 3 on a chart that had them list the Constitutional, Structural, and Procedural
differences between the House and Senate. Students are asked to get into groups of 3. They are
allowed to move within the room in order to form their groups. Students are actively engaged in
this process. Mr. Wigglesworth circulates the room during this time answering questions and
ensuring that everyone is on task. Student questions are often answered with questions by Mr.
Wigglesworth to encourage deeper thought. Mr. Wigglesworth addressed one group that was not
staying focused on the task at hand. All other groups needed no redirection. After about 5-7
minutes, representatives from each group went to the board to write their responses on the chart.
Mr. Wigglesworth then guides the students on a discussion of the chart. This allows him to fill in
the gaps that exist in the chart. Mr. Wigglesworth should consider a system of giving credit for
participation to encourage more response from students. This might encourage a broader range
of student responses.
