INTERNSHIP PLAN
Activity – I will volunteer on the School Improvement Team over the course of my
internship.
Support Needed – My mentor will provide me with documents needed to understand the
SIP as well, the chair and dean of the committee will assist me in understanding how to
write and create a successful plan.
Activity – I will use more technology programs to help my students take their learning to
a new level. This will also be done with staff during SIP time. Instead of just talking to
staff, we will use more technology to communicate and help them become more familiar
with the School Improvement Plan.
Timeline – Over the two years of the program and internship, but will be started in
January with students
Support Needed - My mentor will help and guide me as I put together a tool for
teachers to use to understand the SIP.
Activity – I will serve as a mentor to multiple teachers. During this time, I will observe
them and provide feedback and coaching where needed.
Support Needed - I will need my mentor to support this and me. As well, she will offer
ideas and feedback to me as how I am giving and receiving feedback. My dean will also be
available to support my classroom during this time if needed.
Goal #2 – Develop technology skills with my team through collaboration that leads to high
student achievement results
Activity – I will lead my 4th and 5th grade teams in training through a technology tool
that effectively engages students and increases student achievement. This tool will be
utilized to engage students, but it will also be used during PLC time to discuss
collaboration amongst the team.
Support Needed - I will need my team’s buy-in to understand the why behind doing this
new thing as well as my dean and principal’s support in allowing me to present this to the
team and also as support if I run into issues or have questions.
Activity – I will work with my mentor to plan end of the year items that need to take
place, attend meetings with her, and help with final end of year paperwork. For the start
of the year, I will also attend meetings with her and help with PD ideas for back to school
week.
Timeline – This will take place the last couple weeks of the school year as well as the
couple of weeks leading up to back to school.
Goal #2 – I will work with my leadership team and mentor to help develop a master
schedule for the next school year. As well I will help with the testing schedule prep.
Activity – I will plan with the leadership team and my mentor to develop a master
schedule for the 2017-2018 school year. Along with the master schedule, I will work with
the team in assisting putting together our testing schedule for the 2017-2018 school
year.
Timeline – This will occur during the planning time with the leadership team for one to
two weeks.
Support Needed - My mentor will provide guidance that allows me to help in anyway
possible with developing of the new schedule. She will also be available for questions.
Activity – I will promote our school as the better option in the area by promoting our
school information and growth in the community. This will also help with creating new
partnerships that could lead to presentations and assistance during fundraisers.
Activity – I will work with the leadership team to develop effective and engaging parent
nights that help parents gain insight into the school, community, and useful skills that can
help them with life skills.
Support Needed - I will rely on my mentor and Dean to support my ideas that I bring
forward about potential event nights and topics.
Activity – My mentor and I will have a discussion about legal ramifications and obligations
in our school and company. This will help me understand what to do in different situations
as well as understand who to go to when issues arise.
Timeline – The conversation will take place by the end of the winter semester 2017.
Support Needed - I will need my mentor to be open and available to this conversation.
She will also provide me with feedback tips on how to handle various situations.
Goal #2– I will develop a better understanding of the school discipline policies as well as
laws that must be followed when using a lottery system for enrollment.
Activity – My mentor and I will have a discussion on the school discipline system to
discuss areas of concern from school surveys. As well, my mentor will provide reading
assignments and discussion questions for me to work on while we discuss Civil Rights
issues pertaining to sports and also the lottery process of our charter company.
Timeline – This conversation will take place by the end of the fall system 2017.
Support Needed - I will need my mentor to be open and available to this conversation.
She will also provide me with feedback tips on how to handle various situations.
Activity – I will attend the monthly meetings of the PPC. I will be available to help roll
out events with the parents and the committee.
Timeline – This will take place during the 2016-2017 school year and continue into the
following school year(s).
Support Needed - I will need the help of my mentor in providing me coverage during the
morning meetings that occur once a month.
Goal #2 – I will help the leadership team and stakeholders set goals for the 2017-2018
school year.
Activity – During this upcoming end of year meetings, I will be taking place in planning
meetings for next year. I will be able to discuss goals for the school for the upcoming
school year as well as strategies we can use to implement and meet these goals.
Support Needed - Goals from previous years, data from past years. My mentor will be
able to provide these items and will be available for feedback and questions I may run
into.
Timeline – This will take place over the course of the internship.
Support Needed - I will need my mentor to provide guidance on what I can do as well as
help with questions I may have along the way.
Goal #2– During the summer, I will be active in helping the leadership team with
interviews, calendar setting, and scheduling for the 2017-2018 school year,
Activity – Over the course of the next several months, I will be helping the leadership
team and committees plan for the 2017-2018 school year. This will include me taking part
in the school calendar planning, daily class schedules, interviews for new teachers, and
observing teachers and providing feedback from the observations.
Timeline – This will take place from Spring 2017- Fall 2017.
Support Needed - My mentor will provide me with the templates and items needed. She
will be available for discussions and I will check in with her weekly to discuss projects and
work that is being completed.
