Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA)
was established in 1986 to further develop our agricultural commodities and processed
foods, and to promote their exports. Its primary mission is to maximize foreign
exchange earnings through increased agro exports; to provide better income to the
farmers through higher unit value realization and to create employment opportunities in
rural areas by encouraging value added exports of farm produce.

As per APEDA’s classification the number of exporters registered are as under:

A) SCHEME FOR FEASIBILITY STUDIES, SURVEYS, CONSULTANCY AND DATABASE

in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Packaging.
APEDA shall encourage development of biodegradable packaging materials by providing
assistance under the above components to such efforts/initiatives.

APEDA shall exercise control on the use of equipment /instruments for which assistance
is extended to, the fees to be charged for testing for any APEDA members for the
purpose of exports, through a bond to be executed by the beneficiary.
The equipment shall be in the name of the laboratory and the laboratory shall follow the
terms and conditions as shall be laid down by in the "procedure for upgradation of
independent laboratories" as well as in the Bond to be signed by the beneficiary. In case
of breach of the terms and conditions of the Bond, APEDA shall recover the
instrument/equipment or the full amount of reimbursement together with an interest
thereon @ 12 % p.a.

2. Pesticide Residue Testing for Fresh Fruits & Vegetables


The Scheme shall be applicable for Grapes, Mangoes and Litchies. Tests would be
conducted only for those chemicals, which are either banned or where there is a
possibility of having higher residue levels than the permissible limits.

Scale of reimbursement Rs. 300/- for each pesticide residue subject to minimum of Rs.
1250/- per sample and maximum of Rs. 2000/- per sample. 50 % of the cost would be
borne by the exporter and 50% by APEDA. Payment for the test would be made to
Laboratories and not to individual exporters. Advance may be given to the laboratories
for conducting the test.

Procedure of availing Financial Assistance

• Market Development Assistance Scheme (MDA)
• Transport Assistance (Air/Sea) (Procedure For Transport Assistance 2005-07)

This system provides the facility for the exporter to apply for Financial Assistance online
and also at any point of time can check the status of already submitted application(s).

Exporters are required to apply for all financial assistance schemes of APEDA (Financial
Assistance Schemes - FAS, Transport Assistance Schemes - TAS and Market
Development Assistance - MDA) online through APEDA’s official website
http://www.apeda.com/exporters. Out of these three, submission of details online is
mandatory for Transport Assistance Scheme, which shall include both Air and Sea
Transport support. Though the application details are required to be submitted online by
the exporter, APEDA also requires certain mandatory supporting documents for
processing the assistance application. Hence the exporter shall submit these supporting
documents along with a copy of the online application, in hard copy format, to the
respective APEDA offices.

Only the registered members of APEDA who have already updated their company details
at www.apeda.com and submit their export returns (party return) regularly can apply for
this assistance.
