The following text is for questions number 29 to 32

Last week was a hectic week. I have been touring East Java and Bali. There were so many
things that I’ve experienced that it’s difficult to write about all of them.

I arrived in Yogyakarta, on Sunday. I stayed in a cheap accommodation, a wisma. The room

was clean and I could get hot water to bathe. On Monday, I went with a tour group to visit
Borobudur and the Hindu temples in Prambanan. Some of these temples are more than twelve
hundred years old. They date well beyond the churches in my home town in Europe, I was amazed at
the enormity of the construction. I’m sure they did not have the heavy machines we have today to
raise and lay those huge blocks of stone. The carvings on the walls were another feature of the
construction.

I’m getting used to the spicy food served here. I have eaten fresh fish, lamb and beef. I know
you don’t eat all this but I’ve got used to it. On Tuesday I decided to go for a hike to Mount Merapi.
But I found out that it was a difficult climb. So I went to thee forest park in Kaliurang. That was a
lovely walk that made me hot and tired. But I managed to cool off in a waterfall in the park then
walked up to a hill nearby where I could see the smoky, fiery Mount Merapi.

The following text is for questions number 33 to 37

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves in front of the Sun and hides at least
some part of the Sun from the earth. In a partial eclipse, the Moon covers part the Sun; in
an annular eclipse, the Moon covers the center of the Sun , leaving a bright ring of light
around the Moon; in a total eclipse, the Sun is completely covered by the Moon.

It seems rather improbable that a celestial body the size of the Moon could
completely block out the tremendously immense Sun, as happens during a total eclipse, but
this is exactly what happens. Although the Moon is considerably smaller in size than the
Sun, the Moon is able to cover the Sun because of their relative distances from Earth. A
total eclipse can last up to 7 minutes, during which time the Moon’s shadow across Earth at
a rate of about 6 kilometers per second.

33. This passage mainly discussed about ….

A. describes how long an eclipse will last
B. gives facts about the Moon
C. explains how the Sun is able to obscure the Moon
D. explains the reader about solar eclipse
E. report the event of solar eclipse.
34. In which type of eclipse is the Sun obscured in its entirety?
A. A partial eclipse D. A celestial eclipse
B. An annular eclipse E. A total eclipse
C. A Lunar eclipse

35. According to the passage, how can the Moon hide the Sun during a total eclipse?
A. the fact that the Moon is closer to earth than the Sun makes up for the Moon’s smaller size.
B. The Moon can only obscure the Sun because of the Moon’s great distance from the earth.
C. Because the Sun is relatively close to Earth, the Sun can be eclipsed by the Moon.
D. The moon hides the Sun because of the Moon’s considerable size.
E. because the Sun’s size is much bigger that the Moon’s size.

36. The passage states that which of the following happens during an eclipse?
A. The Moon hides from the Sun
B. The Moon’s shadow crosses Earth
C. The Moon is obscured by the Sun
D. the distance from the Moon is getting farther
E. The Moon begins moving at a high speed

37. …. Moon could completely block out the tremendously immense Sun. (paragraph 2)

There are numerous things you can do to minimize your risk of cancer by a third. Research
carried out by Harvard University showed one third of the seven million cancer deaths in the world in
2001 could have been avoided if the victims had taken sufficient fruits and vegetables, refrain from
smoking, take less salt, sugar and oil; do more exercise, cut down red meat consumption and watched
their weight. Over indulgence on unhealthy habits are key factors for strokes, cancers, and heart
attacks.

Some doctors say cancer is multi-factor disease; it’s a combination of genetic environment and
family history. It has no clear definition to pinpoint the exact risk factor. There is no guarantee that a
person who follows good health procedure rigidly will not suffer from stroke, cancer, or heart attack.
Conversely, there are many who indulge in smoking, drinking and other vice out lived a person who
does not indulge in unhealthy living.

In my opinion, this is a very subjective-issue and advise. Those who totally ignore the healthy
life style to give up or at least reduce their vice before it’s too late. As for who follow the healthy life
style rigidly to take it easy as a bit of red meat; deep fried food or ice cream occasionally are not going
to hurt them. Prevention is better than cure, so go for clinical check up regularly. Consult a doctor
immediately if you suspect cancer as early detection and treatment give better chance of cure.

E. the only cancer research done by the Harvard University

A. it is a contagious and deadly disease
B. It is family related disease and always inherited by parents
C. It is a disease caused by too much good food.
D. Over indulgence on unhealthy life style cause it.
E. It is a multi-factor disease including genetic environment and family history

40. How can we minimize the risk of cancer?

A. indulge on unhealthy life style when we are young
B. Do more exercise and ignore your healthy diet
C. Eat more white meat and less fresh vegetable
D. Drink more water and have plenty of rest
E. Eat more vegetable, fruit, and exercise regularly.

41. Consult a doctor immediately…. (paragraph 3). The meaning of the underlined word is….

Working and going to school is challenging, it can be a rewarding experience if you use some
foresight. However, you’d better think a hundred times before you decide to take a part time job.

On the negative side, working and still maintaining a good grade at school is not an easy task.
Having less time for schoolwork becomes the main negative effect. Consequently, many students who
work part time fail to perform at their best both on schoolwork and on examinations. Moreover, a part
time job can really interfere with the students’ free time. It also cuts into their studies and/or social life.

On the positive side of things, a part time job helps students to support day to day living
expenses. Another benefit of part-time work is the opportunity to expand the resume. Ideally, a
student can still gain some work experience and develop skills.

However, working takes a lot of time and energy, so students need to make sure to be able to
handle both employment and their current commitments so that they have to make decisions and
figure out their priorities.
