Class Syllabus  
 

 
Your hopes and expectations are to complete your middle
Welcome!  school and high school experience at Charter School of San
Diego! Now it is time to put action behind those goals! Parents
and guardians you will find in this syllabus class expectations,
credit completion goals, grading policies, behavior expectations
and tips on how to support your student at home!

   
Class expectations  Learning appointments 
● You must attend your scheduled appointments (assigned 
two days a week) on time every time.  
● In case of illness, parent/guardian must notify teacher 
immediately, and schedule a make-up day for their 
student. Please bring your doctor’s notes and any 
additional health concerns that may be new.  
● Your student is required to attend all testing dates that are 
assigned! Please plan accordingly to subtle schedule 
changes. 
● If you are ​not in compliance​ with the procedures listed 
above, parent/guardian and student will be required to 
attend a scheduled intervention with either school 
counselor (Ms. Mara) and or vice principal (Ms. Vallon). 
○ These interventions are required and mandatory! 
● We are year round! That means that when we have 
weeks off, you are still completing the required weekly 
lessons at home.  

Behavior Expectations 
● Appropriate clothing, (no hats, hoodies, and inappropriate 
logos). 
● No cellphone usage permitted (unless permitted by 
teacher). 
○ Your phone will be taken away by any teacher if 
used at the resource center (don’t worry we have 
plenty of technology for you to use!). 
○ If it happens a second time, parent is required to 
pick it up from teacher. 
● Minimal talking in the resource center (you should be hard 
at work!). 
● Zero Tolerance (please see your Zero Tolerance 
agreement that you signed). 
● After and before your appointments you are expected to 
be at home (please see Loitering Compliance Form that 
you signed). 
● Treat the Resource Center with respect, no writing on 
desks or vandalizing any school property in any way (this 
behavior will lead to automatic meeting with our 
counselor/Ms. Mara and or vice principal/Ms. Vallon). 
 

What Independent Study looks like​ at home 


● 1 paper lesson completed everyday,​ by the end of the 
week on Friday afternoon your student should have 
completed 5 lessons (this includes lessons completed at 
school!). 
● Student needs an appropriate quiet place to do lessons at 
home. 
● Five hours every day needs to be set aside for student to 
complete lessons. ​(1 Lesson needs to be completed at 
home even when students are not in the classroom)​. 
○ This can be five straight hours or broken up into 
segments. 
● Daily scheduled routine, your student should preferably 
work from the hours of 7am-12pm. 
○ These are Ms. Herrera’s student hours! 
○ You can reach out and get help from home through 
email, phone or texting through google voice. Use 
these resources to be successful!!! 
● We are year round! That means that when we have 
weeks off, you are still completing the required weekly 
lessons at home.  
 
   
Credit Completion and  How many credits do I need to graduate or be promoted? 
Grading Criteria  ● 42 credits need to be done by May 4, of your senior year in 
order to graduate on time and walk in the graduation 
ceremony.​ (if you don’t complete it by that day, you won’t 
walk, sorry) 
● 10 credits (8th grade curriculum) needs to be completed 
by July 30 of your 8th grade year in order to be promoted 
to 9th (high school). 

One credit per month must be completed!​ No Exceptions!!! 


If you are completing a course on paper:​
● Complete one paper lesson every day, even on your
days outside the resource center.
● That means after a week you must have turned in at least
5 passing lessons. ​Incomplete lessons will receive a
failing grade.
● By the last Tuesday of every learning period you must
have turned in 20 total lessons.
● That gives you 17 school days to complete 20 lessons.
● See monthly pacing guide.
● We are year round! That means that when we have 
weeks off, you are still completing the required 
weekly/monthly lessons and credit. No Exceptions, no 
excuses! 

​ If you are completing a course on Edgenuity:


● Complete 5% percent every day, even on your days
outside the resource center.
● That means after a week you must have completed
online at least 25%.
● By the last Tuesday of every learning period you must
complete your 100% of your course.
● That gives you 17 school days to complete 100% of your
course!
● We are year round! That means that when we have 
weeks off, you are still completing the required 
weekly/monthly lessons and credit. No Exceptions, no 
excuses!

Grading Criteria
89.5-100%= A
79.5-89.4%= B
69.5-79.4%= C
69.4 and below = Not passing
*Each course has different weighted assignments based on
projects, essays, quizzes and exams.

   
Tips on how to be successful  ● Monthly pacing guide (new one every month, see
in Ms. Herrera’s Class!  teacher)
● Monthly calendar (new one every month, see teacher)
● Be Consistent
● Communication!!!!
● Doing work everyday in the resource center and at
home or anywhere outside the resource center.​ (if you
work during the week, you won’t have to during the
weekends)
● Don’t get lazy!!!
● Establish self discipline
● Contacting Ms. Herrera
● Showing up to all scheduled appointments
● Turning in quality work
● Putting in 100% effort everyday
● Parental support
● We are year round! That means that when we have 
weeks off, you are still completing the required 
weekly/monthly lessons and credit. No Exceptions, no 
excuses!
