Agila troopers of the 67th Infantry Battalion in partnership with the Department of
Agriculture and the local government of Baganga will launch a livelihood program on September
24, 2010, 7 A.M. at Barangay Mahan-ub, Baganga, Davao Oriental.
The “1st Gulayan ng Bayan” was exemplified by the said battalion when they started their
own mini-farm in the camp which housed various vegetables. It was attended by members of
the Battalion, Cafgus, rebel returnees and the immediate community near the battalion
headquarters. Armed with the experience of their own backyard gardening, they offered their
help to the advocacy of the Department of Agriculture which has a program that encourage
populace to plant vegetables in their own backyard or in a plot of the barangay.
The program aims to positively influence the economic aspect of the populace through
experiential learning that backyard gardening can lessen the expenses for food of the family and
that the surplus of their vegetables can turn into a profit once they are able to sell it in the
designated market at each barangay.
“The second activity will benefit the farmer’s organizations and the members of
Barangay Defense System of Baganga . This undertaking demonstrates the effectiveness of
Government Programs if done in concert by all stakeholders in the community”, said Lieutenant
Colonel Ruben Basiao, Commander of 67thInfantry Battalion.
The 18 barangays of Baganga, Davao Oriental will compete for the most plentiful farm
produce on December this year.
