What is Sweet Eid?

Sweet Eid is a pioneering, not-for-profit, community project initiated by a group of young

British professionals. The idea behind Sweet Eid is to make Eid, a festival celebrated by over
1.6 billion Muslims from across the world, engaging and memorable for children and their
families. Sweet Eid takes place biannually; in 2018, it will take place in June and August.

How did Sweet Eid start?

Eid is a festival celebrated around the world, but the festivities vary depending on where you
are in the world. As a young child, one of our co-founders spent his early years in the United
Arab Emirates. He recalled how Eid was the day on the calendar he looked forward to the
most. He would get an abundance of sweets, gifts and money, attend events catered to
children and their families and enjoy himself. It was memorable, enjoyable and fun!

This sparked a discussion amongst a group of friends: what can we do to make children look
forward to Eid in the UK in a similar manner? How can we replicate the excitement and ‘buzz’
that children experience in majority-Muslim countries, where Eid is a festival and celebration?
This inspired us to establish Sweet Eid.

How does it work?

On the day, dressed in our infamous Sweet Eid t-shirts, we distribute sweet gift bags, balloons
(modelled into hats, swords, flowers and more) and Eid cards outside mosques, parks and
community centres – bringing smiles to the faces of thousands of children!

The great thing about Sweet Eid is that it can easily be set up in any mosque, park or
community centre – its simplicity and creativity is at the heart of our success. The Sweet Eid
team provide the training, skills and logistical advice to help enthusiastic volunteers operate
Sweet Eid in their local communities. The result: HUGE smiles on the faces of tens of
thousands of children and their families!

Sweet Eid so far

Since our humble beginning in 2013, Sweet Eid has gone from strength to strength. Our
dedicated team has mobilised a support network of volunteers, charities, private sector
organisations, mosques and community centres that have underpinned our success and
growth. As a result, Sweet Eid has been active in over 35 locations across the UK and beyond,
distributing more than 75,000 Sweet Eid gift bags and modelled balloons to tens of thousands
of children (and a few adults as well).

Our primary distribution network and volunteer base is in London – home to an increasingly
affluent and economically mobile Muslim community. However, we are also present in UK

cities such as Preston, Manchester, Coventry, High Wycombe and Kent, and in 2017, we
distributed gift bags and modelled balloons to the victims of Grenfell Tower and the
surrounding community.

Further afield, our sweet gift bags have been distributed in Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and Turkey
via our long-standing charity partner, Human Appeal.

What is our vision?

Through Sweet Eid, our vision is to see the peace, love and spirit of Eid spread through to
communities across the UK and beyond.

We believe this project has truly global reach and can bring a smile to millions of children
across the globe. As such, Sweet Eid is always looking at opportunities to evolve and expand
with the support of our partners.

Why should your organisation get involved as a sponsor?

Each year, we are attracting greater levels of interest. This rapid growth in popularity and
scale means we are continuously expanding to new cities, mosques, parks and community
centres. Sponsorship of Sweet Eid offers a unique opportunity to promote and expand the
visibility of your brand to an increasingly affluent yet untapped audience.

There are 2.8 million Muslims in the UK, according to the 2011 census, and the Muslim market
is worth more than £20 billion to UK retailers. Marketers are increasingly recognising the
value of sponsorship targeted at the Muslim community. In 2017, retailers including
Selfridges, John Lewis, Radley, Molton Brown, Boux Avenue, Hotel Chocolat and Dune all
hosted special events and offers or produced bespoke Eid ranges specifically for the Muslim
community.

The benefits and value to your brand

Brand profile and recognition amongst a captive audience

Sweet Eid will be active in more than 35 locations this year and on social media, offering a
potential audience of more than 100,000. As we have been active for many years, many
people actively expect and look out for Sweet Eid stalls on Eid day.

Each Eid, your brand will appear on at least 15,000 Eid cards, ten banners and 50 t-shirts, and
gain widespread visibility on social media and all other forms of media correspondence.

Our sponsors and partners gain exclusive rights to distribute any branded merchandise on the
day. However, these will need to be approved in advance and must tie in with our brand and
project values.

Media partners and coverage
In previous years, we have worked with media partners and secured coverage online, social
media and on broadcast channels that are specifically targeted towards the Muslim
community, further expanding the brand exposure of sponsors. This includes Channel S
(broadcast), Bangla TV (broadcast), Productive Muslim (online, social media) and IlmFeed
(online, social media).

Social media exposure

Sweet Eid has a strong presence on a range of social media channels (Instagram, Twitter,
Snapchat and Facebook) and has good partnerships with other pages and channels with a
strong following. This continues to grow year-on-year.

Last year, we upload live videos on the day of Eid, one of which attracted 26,137 views,
received 2,200 likes, 367 shares and 388 comments:

We are also considering an expansion of our digital advertising strategy to include YouTube
advertisements in 2018.

Positive association with a creative and fun community project

The great thing about Sweet Eid is that it is enjoyed by everyone – young and old, Muslim and
non-Muslim alike. It is a pioneering, not-for-profit community project that has established a
strong reputation in the community, and captured the attention of adults, children and their
families.
