3 Corrosion resistance test

a) Corrosion resistance by plating symbols

The CASS test or neutral salt spray test in JIS H 8502 shall be conducted for the test time specified
in Table 8 and Table 9. One cycle of CASS test consists of 16-hour actual spraying and 8-hour
interval. Actual spraying time shall be considered as test time. The neutral salt spray test shall be
conducted by using the continuous spraying method.

Remark: For zinc plated surface with chemical conversion treatment applied on it, the test shall be
conducted 24 hours or more after the chemical conversion treatment is applied. For
chromium plating, the test shall be conducted 48 hours or more after the chemical
conversion treatment is applied.

Note*11»: In cases where chemical conversion treatment (CF) has been applied instead of (B) specified in
the drawing due to a change in the production process, neutral salt spray test shall be conducted
for 24 hours. If a 72-hour neutral salt spray test is required, the drawing specification shall be
revised to (CF).

Note02': In cases where a part emphasizing its appearance quality does not allow light yellow, thereby
requiring the use of white chemical conversion treatment whose corrosion resistance is low.
chemical conversion treatment (CF) shall be specified in the drawing along with a note indicating
the number of hours to apply the neutral salt spray test.

Note*1*»: Zinc-nickel alloy plating for black color (K) shall be prohibited from use for new parts. For parts
whose corrosion resistance and black color must be emphasized, zinc-ferrous alloy plating for
hexavalent chromium-free black color (KF) is recommended.

Note*14*: Zinc-nickel alloy plating for black color (K) shall be prohibited from use for new parts. For parts
whose corrosion resistance and heat resistance must be emphasized, zinc-nickel alloy plating
for hexavalent chromium-free light yellow (CF) is recommended.

Note061: Zinc-nickel alloy plating for hexavalent chromium-free black color (KF) is not standardized
because its practical use has not started in Yamaha yet.

Remark: The time required for red rust to form on "zinc plating + chemical conversion treatment’ is
shown for reference in Attached Table 4.
