Global Warming

Over the time our environment has been changing drastically by increasing the

temperature in the atmosphere. The land and oceans are affected by this catastrophe as well. The

cause of Global Warming would be our human activities which includes greenhouse gases which

is caused by carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons and other more pollutants. This is something

that not only affects one but all of us, this is why I think this is such an important topic. It is a

topic that we all should be informed about as well as contribute to make a change that will make

a difference maybe not right now but in the future. The genres that I selected will prove and

support why this is such an important topic and show us different ways in which we can help to

reduce the damage that with the time we have created. "Global Warming 101" has a very

complete website where it give us projected future effects if we continue as today, as well as the

causes that has damage our atmosphere. While the NASA is a website managed by very

important scientists that have put their studies and observations together about this topic. They

have created charts with precise measurements that show us the differences between the past of

times. This two genres will prove and demonstrate the damage and solutions in different ways.

Each of the genres I chose have a different perspective for a different idea, however they will

both present the information differently for a different type of perspective and purpose.

"Global Warming 101" which is our first typography genre, it is a very informative article

written by Amanda MacMillan posted in March 11 of 2016. This article persuades us readers to

contribute us as a whole community to collaborate and learn more about harsh changes thought

the time due to our mistakes. It demonstrate us with facts and statical information that can be

relied on, while learning the process for a better environment. While in the second genre by the
NASA persuades the entire community as well, but with more visuals, graphs and maps that

show the differences through the time. By adding images to this article the writer is persuading

and causing some type of emotional concerns for the audience. This type of source can actually

cause an impact on today's society to be more consistent and be aware of what is happening in

our environment. They have provided a very interesting global map that has a time series

between 2002 through 2016 with the different temperatures that with the time have been

increasing, with this delivered visuals people is able to understand a little bit more the changes

through the years.

The planned audience for the article by "Global Warming 101" would be people who is

interested in learning more about the study of global warming, people that like to read and be

informed about the changes in our planet as well as solutions for our coming time, it has a very

divergent vocabulary that would be intended to be read scientific and people who is concerned

about our planet. The second genre by the NASA would be intended to be more for scientist that

have more knowledge about chemistry and geology and are able to read the graphs with no

problem, but at the end it has the same purpose to persuade people to contribute for a change.

Both have a different purpose to each persuade their type of audience in multiple ways, one by

having facts and statistics and the other by giving understandable visuals.

This two genre are same but different at the same time, they both take very few time to

read and analyze them. The difference is that one of the is a visual and the other one is a reading.

The visual form provides support to article, which when you combine you would have a clear

understanding of what global warming is. In the visuals from the NASA we see examples as the
one stated before about the temperature about the Earth along with measurements of Carbon

Dioxide along the years which are demonstrated in three different visuals. While is the article is a

Q&A (Questions and Answers) which allows us to get informed of global warming. In the article

we see information about how some states as the United States is helping to prevent global

warming. the effects of global warming and causes of global warming.

In the article and in the images we see ethos, pathos and logos present. In the article

"Global Warming 101" we see ethos as the author is in charged of informing us of all the

fundamentals of global warming, for example "Scientist agree that the Earths rising temperatures

are fueling longer and harder heat waves, more frequent droughts, heavier rain fall, and more

powerful hurricanes"(MacMillan,2016). and this example above we see scientist inform us about

what is going on in Earth with the studies that they have conducted which makes it an ethos

statement. In the graphs provided by NASA we see ethos presented as they provided us with only

statistic and explanations. They are demonstrated by showing us the charts that support all the

information presented, also give us credibility due to the distinguished sources. The NASA is a

very well known website it is run by very professional writers and scientists which it make is

more credible now that is has been studied by more than one scientist.

As for pathos the author includes all the effects of global warming which applies us to

our emotions by letting us know the consequences we may faced if global warming is not

stopped immediately. This article shows a picture as well where the sky has a very smoke orange

color while the city looks very dark full of fumes, with this image it is trying to make us think

and feel how the future would be if we don't stop and make a change know. This image makes
the article more tragical. While as for pathos the NASA does not show any emotion towards the

situation, it just gives precise statistics.

Through all the article, "Global Warming 101" the writer Macmillan uses logos by

providing number and statistics which support his Q&A. It gives a precise number the tells the

reader how much carbon dioxide is produced by year as well as percentage of the changes form

year to year, and shows the impact that global warming has across the globe. The NASA has a

very strong background the website has been running for many years, and as I said before it is

run by very studied professionals scientists and many more. Every chart provided has a different

data source thats shows a more specific background and it shows where its coming from.

At the end both genres that I selected showed and demonstrated the global warming and

its causes very well. The article "Global Warming 101" our first source is more specific with the

definitions and it gives more information for people who is starting to understand the atmosphere

and its composition, while in our second genre the NASA website gives more scientific

definitions which sometimes it can be hard to understand if you don't really understand the

subject. As well as providing charts with very precise statistics through the time, and as I

mentioned in the last paragraph it would more fast and easy to understand if the subject is well

known, but at the end both of genres are very strong regarding the information that they provide,

but the NASA just give the article a hand to go beyond the ordinary definition.
