ISHIKARI NABE
• Kaisen-don is a donburi, or bowl of hot rice, topped
with fresh seafood and sashimi. Some toppings
include fat salmon, juicy crab legs, shiny ikura
(salmon cavier) and sweet scallops.
ISHIKARI NABE

• Ishikari nabe is a hearty local hot


pot dish named for the Ishikari
River, the longest river in Hokkaido.
This rustic dish is served in a clay or
cast iron pot and features a miso-
based broth with winter vegetables,
salmon, and tofu. Nabe is especially
popular in the wintertime, and most
people eat it at home a few times a
week to fight off the cold.

dish. It’s a Japanese-style curry combined
with a rich soup broth and served with rice.
The soup is loaded with fresh herbs, spices,

1. Shiroi Koibito (white lovers): For years Shiroi Koibito has kept its place as the best
souvenir from Hokkaido. It’s a thin piece of white chocolate sandwiched by a Langue
de chat, which is a thin piece of cookie.
2. Corn Chocolate:It is a chocolate bar that has corn that was grown in the rich soil of
Hokkaido, covered in sweet white chocolate. Not only is there a white chocolate
coating, but there is also strawberry, and melon flavor.
