economy.Banking has emerged as
one of the most preferred career options
among the young generation today.
Moreover, technology has transformed the
global 24x7 world of banking and financial
services in terms of new products, more
sophisticated customers and changing
cost structures. This along with the
widespread use of computer technologies
and applications have all combined to
transform the structure of the banking
industry. The Internet has emerged as an
important medium for delivery of banking
products and services such as net
banking, funds transfer, use of ATMs,
mobile banking etc, so it is not surprising
that this highly charged environment has
transformed many banks creating
increased opportunities for those with both
financial and digital skills.
Banking careers include personal
banking and loan officers, relationship
managers, wealth advisory, book keeping
professionals, auditing clerks, finance
service representatives to name a few. For
the beginners, it is the first step towards
understanding the global economy,
discovering the challenges of the
marketplace and identifying themselves
with a career that provides them with
tremendous opportunities, both within the

coming up every year owing to
privatization of services, the industry

Banking is a career that offers

There are two levels of bank recruitment -

vacancies of probationary officers in all
the public sector banks of India. IBPS is

(NABARD) conducts recruitment
examination for its Grade-A and Grade-B
officers. Several other private and public-
sector banks also conduct tests for
recruiting candidates to the clerical and
managerial cadres.

independence. At the Lahore
session of the Indian National
Congress in 1940, Nehru said,
"India could never be an equal
member of the Commonwealth
unless imperialism and all that it
implies is discarded." But India
finally decided to join the
Commonwealth when the
London Declaration of 1949
incorporated Indian concerns.
One of the prominent
considerations in joining the
Commonwealth was that it
offered a platform where India
could connect with other
erstwhile colonies, allowing New
Delhi to continue to raise its
concerns regarding imperialism
and racism. Further, the name
"British Commonwealth" was
dropped and the group adopted
"Commonwealth of Nations" as
its new name. The London
Declaration was thus considered
a diplomatic win for India as it set

British and Indian Interests
and Prospects
CHOGM 2018 comes at a time
when Britain is facing uncertainty
following Brexit, and there is
renewed interest in the
Commonwealth. The
Government of Theresa May is
making an effort to reconnect
with its historical partners in the
Commonwealth at a time when
its traditional partners in Europe
are renegotiating their terms of
engagement with the United
Kingdom. Today, as Britain
searches for a new global
identity in the aftermath of Brexit,
there are those who believe that
the Commonwealth, where one-
third of the world's population in
English-speaking democracies
reside, spanning multiple ethnic
and religious identities, can
emerge as a significant
international platform.
India is going to invest over a
billion pounds in the United
Kingdom. India and the UK
signed multiple agreements and
MoUs when Prime Minister Modi
met his British counterpart
Theresa May. Both countries
have decided to deepen ties,
especially in the areas of
technology, trade and
investment.
The Commonwealth of
Nations will be a good platform
for India to engage with a wide
array of States across the world
with similar political values. India
is already the world's third-
largest economy in PPP
(Purchasing Power Parity) terms
while Britain has been the
largest G20 investor in India in
the 21st century. As India grows
to a US$10-trillion economy by
2030, it needs own arenas and
platforms, especially ones where
China is not a member of
Commonwealth. Modi's renewed
look at the Commonwealth
may well be an indication that
New Delhi is eyeing the
organisation as a prospective
forum for its power projection. To
actualise the potential of this
forum, India will have to invest
diplomatic capital to remould the
platform according to its own
strategic needs. Modi's London
visit, in this context, could be
considered as a step in that
direction.
India is home to 55 percent of
the Commonwealth's 2.3 billion
population and accounts for 26
per cent of its internal trade.
Therefore, its role will be crucial
in revitalising the organisation.
There has been a noticeable
apathy in Indian outlook towards
this organisation which many
believe has been incapable of
delivering the required results to
inspire Indian interest. Trade is
one of the primary areas where
India must focus on. India is well
aware that the Commonwealth's
transcontinental membership
will help India diversify its trade
and economic engagements.
India has already pitched for
trade facilitation in the World
Trade Organization (WTO) to
help its services sector. In the
Commonwealth, India can lead
in ironing the fine details
surrounding important trade
issues and building a consensus
around them, and in turn use
that consensus as a negotiating
leverage at the WTO.
Conclusion:
The objective of Prime Minister
Modi's participation at CHOGM
2018 signals to advance the
engagement of India with
Commonwealth nations. This
Summit has provided an
opportunity for like-minded
nations to turn their minds to
global challenges of trade and
security. Prime Minister Modi
visit has also conveyed India's
desire to see the Commonwealth
increase its focus on developing
country priorities. Prime
Minister's decision to attend the
Summit is a good signal for
change of Indian attitude
towards a relatively large forum.
There is scope for India to play a
bigger role for itself and be a
more influential player in the
negotiations. India as one of the
most important amongst
the world's emerging powers,
should take the lead in
reimagining the future of the
Commonwealth.

institution abroad and joins the university/institution before execution of
bonds as mentioned in clause V(ii) (a) and is not in a position to return to
India than he/she may execute the Power of Attorney (POA) for any

such applicants are required to get the POA attested/validated by Indian
Embassy/High Commission in the country where he/she is pursuing studies.
ii. The selected candidate will also be required to execute a bond with this
Ministry and the Indian Mission abroad, as per prevailing laws of the foreign
country, that the extension of stay abroad beyond completion of the course
or duration of the scholarship under the Scheme, whichever is earlier will not
be permissible. However the extension of stay abroad beyond completion of

iii. The candidate will give an undertaking that he will allow his university to
share information with concerned Indian Mission abroad and the ministry.

iv. The selected candidates can pursue their respective studies in one of the
Universities/Educational Institution abroad which is accredited by an
authorized body of that country, from the academic session 2018-19. The
candidates are required to make their own efforts in seeking admission in one
of the Universities/Educational Institution abroad which is accredited by an
authorized body of that country in programmes/fields specified in the
Scheme.
v. In case the married candidates take a decision to take their spouse and
children with them or join them subsequently during the period of study, it is
entirely for them to assess their financial potential and availability of passport,
visa etc., as no financial assistance of any kind as well as any other support
coverage is provided under the Scheme for their spouse and children.
vi. All administrative matters like study leave, salary etc. will be directly sorted
out by the candidate with his/her employer and as per rules of the serving
organization. This Ministry will not take any responsibility or render any
assistance in this regard.
vii. In case of exigency at home where the awardee is required to return to India
for some time to attend to it, the awardee is permitted to return to India for
the specific purpose, after having informed the Indian Mission and the
educational institution where one is pursuing studies about it. The awardee
will, however, be required to bear to and fro journey expenses for the visit and
shall also not be entitled to receive any maintenance allowance under the
scheme, from the Indian Mission, for the period of being away from the place
of his/her educational institution abroad and the maintenance allowance shall
be resumed by the Indian Mission only from the date of his/her resuming the
same course at the same institution. The awardee after having dealt with the
situation at home, is required to return to the place of his/her educational
institution, as early as possible; failing which, he/she shall be liable to be
declared a defaulter and the recovery proceeding will be initiated against
him/her.
viii. All candidates after having availed of the award under the Scheme are
required to return to India. However, permission for staying abroad after
completion of the course without any financial support will be considered if a
candidate is able to obtain employment abroad, or joins any other course or
is married to a person settled abroad. For this purpose the awardee will apply
to the ministry seeking permission for extension of stay immediately after
completion of course and shall furnish reasons for doing so. The awardee
after having returned to India is also required to immediately intimate to this
Ministry in writing about having returned to India.
ix. The awardee on return to India has to remain in India for at least five years
and is also required to serve the Government, if he/she continues to be in
Government service after return to India, as one was before going abroad
with award under the Scheme.
x. It will be for the candidate to obtain the appropriate visa for a country wherein
one intends to study further under award from the Scheme and the Visa
issuing authorities may see that only such type of visa be issued which only
permits the candidate to pursue specified course abroad and thereafter the
candidate returns to India. In case if a candidate applying for admission in
any University in the United States of America the candidate is required to
obtain only J-1 VISA. The State Department of USA keeps a list of
Designated Sponsor Organizations for J-1 visas for students. Candidates
going to USA should apply in the J-1 Visa sponsoring
Universities/colleges only. In case a candidate has applied for
admission on F-1 visa or has already obtained F-1 visa, such
candidates is not eligible for Scholarship under the Scheme.
Government of India will render no assistance to a candidate for obtaining
Visa.
xi. Selected candidates are required to furnish all such documents and enter
into such agreements before their departure as shall be decided by the
Government of India from time to time.
xii. In case the awardee has received overpayment through Indian Mission
abroad or any other Government agency, he/she is liable to refund the same
to Government of India and his/her employer (if any) is authorized to recover
excess amount from his/her dues, on request from Government of India, and

refund the same to Government of India.
xiii. The decisions of Government of India will be final in all such issues, as may
come up during the course of time.
xiv. The Indian Missions abroad will obtain six monthly progress reports from the
university/ institution where the awardee is pursuing his/her studies for which
the award was given under the Scheme. The Missions will inform to this
Ministry such serious adverse developments in case of the awardee which
requires decision towards further continuation of the award or otherwise. The
Missions will, however, keep on advising such awardees to put serious efforts
in improving their achievements who are not seen to be up to the mark as
reflected in their said six monthly progress reports and they may also be
reminded that financial assistance under the Scheme is not extendable
beyond the stipulated period under the Scheme.
xv. The candidates shall not change the course of study or research for which
scholarship has been sanctioned. However, when situations arise where an
awardee pursuing Ph. D in a university/institution where one is initially
registered with finds his/her guide has left and there are no immediate
replacements thereof or the university/ institutions has discontinued the
research support facilities in the area where the awardee was pursuing Ph.D.
research; the Indian Missions abroad in such cases are authorized to allow
the awardee to change the university/ institution as notified in the Scheme,
after the Missions are satisfied about such a need, however, subject to the
condition that the credits if any earned by the awardee in the initial university/
institution are accepted for transfer by the second university/ institutions and
that the total period of award will remain unchanged even on such a
transfer/change, which will be permitted only once during the award.
xvi. The candidate is not eligible for scholarship under this scheme to
pursue the same level (Masters/Ph. D) of course for which he/she has
already acquired the qualification from any university either in India or
abroad.
xvii. In case the awardee is unable to complete the course successfully and that
if the guide/head of the department of the candidate certifies that the
candidate has not been found wanting in his/her
commitment/dedication/attention to studies then the Ministry shall have the
right to exempt him/her from the penalty clause of Defaulter under the
Scheme. The Indian Missions in all such cases will provide the return air
passage to India by shortest route and economy class.
xviii. When the awardee overstays abroad for more than one month after
successful completion of the course and then of his/her own returns to India
at own cost, he/she will not be entitled to refund of return passage booked by
him/her. In normal circumstances, immediately after successful completion of
the course, the Indian Missions abroad books the return journey, for the
awardee as provided in the Scheme, and thus, the overstaying awardee
without any specific purpose for more than a month after the course is over,
will forfeit his/her claims of return passage at Government expense through
Indian Missions abroad.
xix. The Indian Missions are required to intimate to this Ministry about the return
of the awardee to India.
xx. No scholarship will be disbursed/ paid to the candidates who complete
their education abroad without completing the required
procedure/formalities under NOS Scheme.
xxi. This Ministry, if necessary, in consultation with other Departments/Agencies,
will take decision on such issues concerning awardees arising out of such
situations and circumstances which are of unforeseeable nature and, thus,
not covered under this written Scheme and the decisions of the Ministry will
be final and binding on the awardees.

and other miscellaneous works attached to Labs/ Sections. Any other duty
assigned by the organisation.
(ii) Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
Essential :
(aa) 12th class or equivalent qualification from any recognized Board or University.
(ab) knowledge of typing on computer :
English typing speed @ 35 words per minute; or Hindi typing @ 30 words per
minute (Time allowed-10 minutes)
(35 words per minute in English and 30 words per minute in Hindi correspond to
10, 500 key depressions per hour/9000 key depressions per hour on an average
of 5 key depressions for each word).
Note : Typing test shall not form a part of the selection process while carrying
out recruitment of LDCs under meritorious sportsperson quota. However,
after his/her appointment the selected candidates should qualify in the typ-
ing test conducted by the establishment before completion of his/her pro-
bation period, failing which his/her annual increment will be held in
abeyance.
(ac) Proficiency in the game of Kabaddi.
Desirable: Basic Knowledge in computers.
Job requirement : Responsible for the maintenance of files, records, typing of
letters and job of administrative nature and other duties attached to Admin/
Finance Group/Section. Any other duty assigned by the organization.
3. Eligible candidates can apply in the prescribed format given as Appendix ‘A’ and
Admit Card as Appendix ‘B’, neatly typed (on A4 size paper only) and duly sup-
ported with self-attested copies of testimonials for educational qualification, expe-
rience (if any), age, community certificate, sports proficiency certificate etc.,
issued by competent authorities. The application should bear two recent passport
size colour photographs, out of which one self-attested will be pasted on

4. General :
(a) Besides furnishing attached copies of certificates in support of age, educational
qualification and caste, the applicants are also required to furnish any one of the
following testimonials/ certificates in support of his/her proficiency in the
sports/game of KABADDI i.e. certificates to the effect that he/ she has represent-
ed the state/ UT or the country in National/International tournament or has par-
ticipated in Inter University Meet or in All India School Games organized by All

Form 4) in which the above certificates are to be furnished is given in Annexure
to the Appendix ‘A’. Submission of Form 1/ Form 2/ Form 3/ Form 4 duly
signed by the authorized signatory as mentioned in the Form is Mandatory.
(b) The selection process will involve :
(i) Qualifying in the Field Trials conducted to ascertain the playing capability of the
candidates.
(II) Qualifying in Practical/Skill test for the post of Technician (SS) only, correspon-
ding to the ITI trade which the candidate possesses.
(III) Written test comprising objective type multiple-choice questions in English &
Hindi, covering General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude
and General awareness. The standard/level of the question paper will be com-
mensurate with the Educational QR of the post. OMR answer sheets will be sup-

for Bank PO Exams is a degree in any discipline from a
recognized university and for Clerical grade exam

For joining government banks, one needs to appear for
entrance exams after graduation. IBPS, NABARD and
SBI conduct exams for vacant bank positions. Mostly,
private banks conduct their own written exam for hiring
candidates.
One must clear a CWE (Common Written
Examination) conducted by IBPS for 19 public sector
banks. RBI, SBI and Private banks have their own
separate examinations as per requirements and
vacancies of the bank.
Lakhs of aspirants appear for Bank Exams like IBPS
PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS RRB, SBI PO, RBI Grade etc. to
get placed in one of the reputed banks of the country
every year. These bank exams are conducted at national
level throughout the year. Candidates who aspire for a
banking career must be aware about all the Banking
exams and start preparing.
In the last few years, the IBPS exam (CWE 7) for hiring
candidates was held online. The exam was in two parts:
Tier 1 or IBPS Preliminary Exam and Tier 2 or IBPS
Mains Exam.
IBPS PO Prelims Exam Pattern
The IBPS PO preliminary examination is of one hour
duration and is conducted online. It has 3 sections
having 100 questions in total with a maximum score of
100 marks. There is negative marking in IBPS PO pre
exam as 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong
answer. Candidates must clear the sectional cut-off to
qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern
IBPS has added descriptive paper in its mains exam.
The IBPS PO Main exam is also held online; it has 4
sections having a total score of 200 marks of 180
minutes duration and descriptive paper 1 section having
a total score of 25 marks of 30 minutes duration.
The IBPS exam will have 5 sections and the time limit
for attempting each of the five sections is different, but
the total time duration is 180 minutes for objective and
30 minutes for descriptive. The candidates must
attempt the sections in the same order and within
the allotted time fixed by the examining body. The
candidate can not leave the existing section before the
time allotted. The next section can only be attempted
after the current section is completed. There is a
negative marking with a deduction of 0.25 marks for
every mistake.

IBPS PO Interview
The candidates who have qualified the mains exam will
be called for an interview which will carry 100 marks. To
qualify for the interview a candidate is required to score

The merit list is prepared on the basis of marks
obtained in main examination and interview. IBPS works
out the final score with weightage of marks given to the
main examination and interview in the ratio of 80:20
respectively.
Penalty for Wrong Answers:
A penalty for every incorrect answer is marked in the
Objective Tests of both Preliminary and Mains exams.
Every wrong answer is penalized by deducting 0.25 of
the marks assigned to that question. There is no penalty
for leaving a question blank, i.e. in case no answer is
marked by the candidate.
Final Score Calculation for IBPS PO Exam:
There are certain important points on the basis of which
the final score for the IBPS PO exam is calculated:
* Marks scored in the Preliminary Exam (Tier-1) will not
be considered in the final score. These are only
considered to qualify Mains Exam (Tier-2).
* Candidates need to qualify Phase-2 and Interview
individually to be eligible for final worth.
* The ratio of marks between CWE Main exam and
interview for final merit list will be 80:20 respectively.
* The aggregate of 100 marks is used for the final merit
list for each category. Candidates with high merit rank
in each category are finally selected.

of all 10 posts of Grade A Officers. This will be an

reduced the weightage of reasoning quantitative sections
and added it to the economics and Agriculture & Rural
Development subjects.

SBI PO examination is conducted by State Bank of India
to select eligible candidates to the post of Probationary
Officer. SBI PO is one of the most coveted jobs in
Banking industry and a dream job for millions of aspirants
across India.
The SBI PO recruitment exam is the most premier
among the public-sector bank exams in India. It is
considered a little difficult compared to the bank entrance
exams conducted by IBPS. The recruitment process for
Probationary Officers at SBI consists of 3 stages:

z Main Examination
z GD/Interview
The written examinations are conducted online,
followed by an interview round. The structure of exams is
as follows:

Descriptive Test:
The Descriptive Test has a duration of 30 minutes with a
maximum score of 50 marks. This is used to test the
writing skills in English Language via Letter Writing &
Essay Writing. Descriptive Test paper of only those
candidates is evaluated who have scored qualifying
marks in the Objective Tests and are placed adequately
high as per total marks in objective test.
Penalty for Wrong Answers:
There is penalty for wrong answers marked in the
Objective Tests of both Preliminary and Mains exams. A
wrong answer to an objective question by the candidate
will lead to a penalty of one fourth of the marks assigned
to that question. For example, 0.25 marks will be
deducted as penalty for wrong answer to a question that
carries 1 mark. There will be no penalty for leaving a
question blank, i.e. if no answer is marked by the
candidate.
Phase-3: Group Exercises & Interview
The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the
Objective Tests and Descriptive Test will be arranged in
descending order in each category. Adequate number of
candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank will
be called for Group Exercises and Interview. The
qualifying marks in Group Exercises & Interview will be
as decided by the Bank. Group exercises account for 20
marks while Interview accounts for 30 marks.
