Technological Advancements in Wire Ropes

Wire Ropes – is several strands of metal wire twisted into a helix forming a composite "rope", in
a pattern known as "laid rope". Larger diameter wire rope consists of multiple strands of such
laid rope in a pattern known as "cable laid".

DRILLING LINES
WRI’s drilling lines are available in a conventional six-strand design and achieve excellent
mega-joule (ton-mile) goals. Where improved rope performance is required, drilling lines are
also available in an eight-strand design to provide increased wear resistance and flexibility.

BRAIDED WIRE ROPE SLINGS

A braided sling has different characteristics than that of the single part sling. Usually used
because of their flexibility, high capacity and smaller D/d requirements.

SOCKETED WIRE ROPE ASSEMBLIES

Socketed assemblies are wire ropes that have either a spelter (poured) or swage (pressed) socket
on each end of the assembly. These are typically used in applications where the assembly is
installed in a permanent location.

Galvanized Cable Laid Slings

Cable laid slings are fabricated with a unique type of wire rope that involves using seven smaller
wire ropes twisted together. This type of wire rope is considerably more flexible than standard
wire rope.

Stainless Steel Slings

Stainless Steel wire rope slings are similar to the single part wire ropes slings above but have
considerably more resistance to deterioration due to the outdoor environment.
COMPACTED WIRE ROPE

HYPERSTRONG 8C - 8strand Compacted Wire Rope

Compacted • 8-Strand • Inner Plastified Wire ropes
This wire rope belongs in the non rotation resistant classification but its strands are compacted
and it is used mainly as luffing wire rope on high efficiency ship & harbour mobile cranes,
container bridge cranes, overhead travelling hoists, mineral loading cranes.
It is an 8-strand construction, very flexible and suitable for use on many crane brands installed
on board.
These wire ropes are usually produced as drawn galvanized and internally and externally
lubricated, which makes them corrosion resistant and durable against the various harsh marine
environment factors.

ADVANTAGES
 Extremely resistant & flexible 8-strand ordinary lay or Lang's lay rope with inner plastification,
suited as luffing & hoisting rope.
 Long service life due to inner plastification and reduced rope abrasion, resulting from the smooth
rope surface, also exhibiting excellent flexural fatigue properties
 Resistance against corrosion due to galvanized wires , the permanent lubrication and inner
plastification
 Reliability and safety in operation as a result of the highest breaking forces, especially provided
by the compaction technology
 Exceptional resistance against shock loads and vibrations due to the radial & elastic structured
rope and inner plastification
 Optimal spooling characteristics due to high resistance against radial deformations
 Reduced maintenance effort due to intensive lubrication in each production step
 Trouble-free operation
HYPERFLEX C - Compacted Wire Rope
Fully compacted • 16 outer strands • 1960 Grade
This Compacted wire rope belongs in the multi strand, rotation resistant classification but its
strands are compacted and is used as hoisting wire rope.
It is very flexible, 3-layer construction and is suitable for use on European crane brands. Most
common lay is the Lang's lay, for multi-layer spooling on the winch drum.

ROTATION RESISTANT ROPES

HYPERFORCE 4 - 4x39 Fiber Core Wire Rope

Rotation Resistant • 4 Strand
This is a 4-stranded rotation resistant rope mainly for use on Japanese crane brands.
It is supplied in drawn galvanized finish and fully lubricated for long service life.
Robust construction for many hours of usage on board. Tensile strength is minimum 1960
N/mm2.
HYPERFLEX R - 35(W)x7 Wire Rope
This wire rope belongs in the multi strand, rotation resistant classification and is used as hoisting
wire rope. It is very flexible, 3-layer construction and is suitable for use on many crane brands
installed on board.
35(W)X7 ropes are usually produced as drawn galvanized and internally & externally lubricated,
which makes them corrosion resistant and endurable against the various harsh marine
environment factors.

Types of WIRE ROPE

Galvanized cables and wire ropes are a great economical choice. They offer corrosion
resistance at an affordable price. Galvanized coating is available in most strands, cables and
wire ropes.

Stainless steel type 302/304 is the most widely used of the stainless steel offerings. It offers
good corrosion resistance and breaking strengths comparable to galvanized cable.

Stainless steel type 316 has extra high corrosion resistance. It is often used in harsh
environments where highly corrosive atmospheres are present. This alloy is commonly used in
marine environments and offers excellent protection. The breaking strengths are typically 10%
less than type 302/304 alloys.
PYTHON FLAMESHIELD 8 is an 8-strand High Performance Wire Rope with high
temperature resistant outer wires. These wires are different from normal wires with respect to
both material and production process. the lubricant applied to Flameshield is not prone to
dripping and coking. In combination with a flexible core it provides a long service life under
high temperature working conditions.
Technical criteria
Number of strands 8 + IWRC
Number of wires 200 +IWRC
Load bearing outer wires 152 + IWRC
Manufacturing tolerance +1% / +4%
Fill factor 0.632
Available in Regular- / Lang lay

PYTHON HOIST C is a compacted rope with superior non-rotating properties. 17 outer

strands provide high resistance against drum and sheave pressure. The plastic coated core
effectively prevents premature failure of the rope core and thus improves the rope's service life.
PYTHON HOIST can be used in applications with high dynamic load conditions.
