1. Scope
This specification describes Ball-Eye to be built in accordance with Section 2 Reference
Publications except where specific requirements of this specification shall take precedence.

3. Requirements

3.1 General
The Ball-Eye shall be in accordance with CSA C83.39 Number 1 Hardware Type “B/J”.
An Oval-Eye Ball is also acceptable and shall be in accordance with CSA C83.133
Number 1 Hardware Type “CS-5”. The item shall be galvanized steel as per CSA G164.

3.1.1 Energy Absorption

The steel used shall meet Level 1 (energy absorption) as per clause 6.2.4.1 of
CSA C83. Level 1 material will provide a minimum energy absorption of 20
Joules at -20˚C for three standard Charpy V-notch bars tested in accordance with
CSA G40.20/G40.21. Energy absorption test samples shall be taken from the
finished product after all heat and mechanical treatments. Test results shall be
included with the certified test reports.

3.1.2 Charpy V-notch Impact Test

Charpy V-notch impact tests shall be conducted in accordance with the procedure
defined in ASTM A370. The material shall meet the requirements of Level 1 as
outlined in CSA C83.

3.1.3 Ultimate Tensile Strength

To avoid hydrogen embrittlement, the ultimate tensile strength shall not exceed
1000 MPa (145 ksi). It is preferable that the tensile test be taken to rupture in
order to determine UTS. However, it is sufficient to perform a hardness test
where the pass criterion would be HRC < 32. Rockwell hardness tests shall be
conducted in accordance with the procedure defined in ASTM A370.

3.3 Marking
Item shall be permanently marked “B/J” for a Ball-Eye. Oval-Eye Ball shall be
permanently marked “CS-5”.

4. Packaging
The Ball-Eye shall be shipped with 50 per steel banded wooden box. The outside of each
package shall be legibly marked with:
a) purchase order number,
b) name of manufacturer and/or supplier,
c) product description,
d) quantity,
e) date of manufacture, and
f) SaskPower stock code number.

Alternate packaging requires prior approval before shipping.

5. Inspection
All shipments of Ball-Eye are subject to inspection by SaskPower when they are received.
Acceptance will be based on the requirements of this specification.

6. Rejection
Failure of a representative sample of any shipment to meet requirements of this specification
shall be the basis for rejection of the shipment. SaskPower will have the discretion to determine
the sample size to be inspected for such purposes.

7. Manufacturer Supplied Specification Drawings

Prior to shipment of all materials, detailed Specifications Drawings showing dimensions,
mechanical strength and all other specified requirements shall be submitted to SaskPower for
approval.
