Three young thugs shouted racial abuse at an
Asian policeman and his girlfriend before
assaulting the police officer.
PC Amar Shaloor was off duty when the men
confronted the couple, shouting "Paki bastard"
and "white slag". The constable was then punched
and kicked before the men ran off.
Magistrate Robin Christie at Glasgow District
Court described the men as being "motivated by
racial hatred".
Paul Leigh, 28, James McGill, 21, and David
Mennie, 26, all of Glasgow, were found guilty of
breach of the peace. Mennie was also found guilty
of assault. Mennie was jailed for four months and
McGill for 60 days. Leith was fined £150.
