This is essential event and assessment we did to our course literacies in early childhood

in HCT to prepare well for the literacy day with our group members (Suad, Maryam, and

Moze), and the literacy day it is "will highlight the challenges and opportunities in promoting

literacy in the digital world." (International Literacy Day, 2017).

This event help kids to develop their reading and writing skills differently for

them. Through this literacy day we work as a group member (Suad, Maryam Juma,

and Moza) to prepare for the story it called my grandma's farm. We start our day to

welcome students and reading for them our story about my grandma's farm. We

collaborate and share the work together to prepare everything we need in small

details. For example, I take the door and Colo door to design it by providing all

materials that we need to be done this work. Maryam Also, she works with me to

create a new design for the story and make a stand for the grandma's near the door.

And Moza will print the pictures for the story and assist us when we design the door,

and she provides the materials for us in and outside the collages. I sow its hard

work, and it takes nearly three weeks to prepare everything and be ready for this

day.

Through the literacy day activity, we are welcome students to come to our station

my grandma's farm and see one of the culture and tradition in the UAE. And what

they can find in the farm, and give them how the life it looks like. After that, we

request for kids to sit in the reading centers to be ready to listen to our story. While

we are reading the story, we give to child opportunity to think what's the sound of

animal's farm and give them a chance to touch the body cover for chicken, sheep and

another animal. I sow this way; it's excellent to developing five senses through tough
3

the materials, hearing from my colleagues the sound of each animal. Another point I

observe the children respond to our questions. Also, I saw the children was motivate

and engage while they are hearing and seeing the story. Those ways are more

benefits enter for kids to develop their cognitive ability by think, observe, solve the

problem, and learn at the same time. (McLeod, 2015).

For our story, we provided five different activity that supports the seven-

multiple intelligent that according to Howard Garden theory, we are must provide

the different intelligent that fit the different level of kids. (Land, n.d).

The first activity for the literacy activity day is role play area, the learning outcome of

this area are, develop their social skill when they interact with each other and talk. And the

children imitate the animals sounds. Through this area, the children have hand puppet, and

they will act the action as the way they want and change their voice according to the animals

they have. However, the multiple intelligent for this activity bodily-kinesthetic when they

move their hand.

The second activity is called the Graphic scores, and I will say “each child takes one

instrument on the floor and bit it if they see an animal that indicates their instrument for

example if they see chicken they will pummel a triangle.'' The learning outcomes of this

activity are, KLPA1: listen to and generate rhyming words. KLTC2: listen and respond to

various texts that are read aloud. And KLTC1: follow two-step directions. (ADEC, 2014).

That support musical, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligent while they make the rhythm and

change the picture to get their rhythm.

The third activity, the child will interact with the materials by arranging the

puzzle to create a cover page picture. Puzzle activity that supports mathematical

intelligent. And the learning outcome for this activity gives the child to solve the

grandma's farm puzzle and assist children in developing thinking and cognitive

skills.

The fourth point, is finishing the activity, through this center the children will

work as a peer, and they have counting cards with missing one number, the child

will think and count to find the number that missing. For example, I will take one of

counting card and tell the children that they must complete the blank if they have

1+5= They will fish six animals and write the missing number on the card.

I found this activity support mathematical, visual and bodily-kinesthetic. And

the learning outcome is, K1NS3: count sets of up to 10 objects. (ADEC, 2014),

develop their social skill when they interact with each other and talk, and KWC3:

hold pencil or marker efficiently to begin approximated writing. (ADEC, 2014).

The fifth activity is called words games. This activity divided into three sections, low,

middle, high levels. It has the complete words, tracing the words, and what I see?

The children can choose any section they want to start doing the activity.

I saw this activity support linguistic when they read the sentences, Interpersonal when

they word as a group, and visual when they observe the letter are missing in the complete

words section. And bodily-kinesthetic when they move the hand to use another part.

The AFL strategies is an approach teaching and learning that used from teachers

to improve students’ performance. That includes the summative and formative

assessment for kids through the lesson. (Getting started with Assessment for

Learning, n.d).

However, in my station I use the different strategies to assessment children likes,

In reading centers, I ask questions to kids to see how they understand the story and

give them a chance to think what the sound of each animal.

In centers, I observe children while they are doing the puzzle activity and how

the act the characters in role play. And I take the video record and take a photo

while they are busy doing the activity. Also, I use Skinner theory, and positive

reward systems by giving them starts, and pries them while they answer a right

answer in the reading center and the activities. And finally, after the child finishes

going the activity encourage the child by giving them balloon that includes happy

face to be satisfied in our station. (McLeod, Skinner - Operant Conditioning, 2015).

The difficulty I found when our group prepares for literacy day, we have done

everything for this day. But, we empress before one day of the literacy day MS,

Tony said that we have to design the well also not only the door.

And she didn't mention for us that they will remove the locker and it will be

space to create our design. It's so hard for us to do it in a short time. But, we work

hard, and street to prepare the presentation for kids to love the station, to provide the

real environment about the farm, and make some real palm in our station. In

addition, we will still in the colleagues at 9:00 pm evening to finish the work and
6

present well for the literacy day. It was fantastic to work and enjoyable final work

by creating a beautiful design to grape the attention for kids.

Second difficulty, I found how we can manage the time with my colleagues to

finish the work before the literacy day, and how we can complete the work with the

short time and busy jobs. However, it takes a long time because we discuss how we

can create an exciting design what we need, and what's weak for that, and what it is

the resources and materials we need to make those design and the activity.

The third difficulty, we found how we can stake the activity and design the

door what's the right ways to stack our staff in the door. After asking some teachers

and students, they give us is the right ways to use to two-faced so it's easy to put it

on the door and easy to remove it.
