To Whom It May Concern,

As a publishing professional photographer since 1989 and digital photography instructor at Windsor High School,
it is my pleasure to provide this letter of recommendation for senior Austin Miller.

Mr. Miller studied Advanced Photography with me this year. Austin is an exceptional photographer and multi-
talented student who is fully committed to the use of digital photography. His body of work includes landscapes
and human-interest topics, including wonderful images that depict the community-building that sprang from the
Fall 2017 fires in Sonoma county. This year, I have been awed by Austin’s work to leverage his career technical
education – especially business skills of the industry – to position himself for success at a very young age.

In my own professional photography experience, which is diverse and includes feature and assignment credits in
National Geographic, Smithsonian and other outlets, I see great promise in Austin.

Most impressive is Austin’s drive to make images. As a true advanced student, he makes images of his own accord,
exploring new locations and techniques, and seeking my feedback to refine his practice. Austin has already
established a small client base and published regionally, meeting with clients with the support of his own portfolio
website. I am proud of how Austin has applied his education in photography at the high school level to establish
the basis for a successful professional enterprise.

Equal to his professional prowess are Mr. Miller’s personal attributes. He is a very kind and responsive individual
who is always respectful and humble, and very open to growth. Austin has been wonderful in the classroom in his
relationships with his peers: on several occasions, he has offered to demonstrate techniques with the entire Photo
I class and is quick to assist other students in need.

I know from my own professional work that the successful photographer today must make effective use of social
media. Mr. Miller uses social media to promote his work and expand his audience like no other visual artist at
Windsor High School. I recall the lesson I provided the Advanced Photo students in the use of metadata
templates in Photoshop. Austin recognized the power of this tool both to catalog and promote his work via
search engine optimization (SEO). His use of Instagram – the preferred social media platform of publishing
professional photographers today - is remarkable!

Photography education is a tremendous vehicle for the academic and personal growth of high school students,
and I am confident that Austin Miller, given his commitment to the medium, will continue to make an impact on
the communities he serves. I highly recommend Austin Miller as an academically gifted visual artist, emerging
professional and a fine human being who will bring a good image to any institution or community.

Respectfully,
