Introduction

―Phonics is a method of teaching children to read by connecting sounds with letters or

groups of letters in an alphabetic writing system. Phonics is a method for the children to
teach them through the voice s of the message‖ and the more interesting thing is children
are get the message from the voice for example they know if you really sad and happy
from your voice. Also , the teacher can use many ways for the children to teach them
phonics and Improve their abilities to understand the lesson more. In this assessment I
will discuss about the best two types of approaches that I will used to help the pre-
school children .

Part A :
The two approaches that i used for teaching phonics and I used to help the pre – school
are Synthetic phonic instructions and Analytic phonics instruction.. Synthetic phonic
instructions means that Make relationship between letters and sounds. For example, if
they know the sound of the letters they can read the words . It’s very important for the
children to know the sounds of the letters because if they know the sound of each letter
they will be able to read the words . for example , c a t if they will know the sound of
letter c ,a and t they will be able to read the word cat and it will be easily for them to read
the word . Moreover, children should first know the sound of the letter then they have to
build the word according to the letter sound. The Analytic Phonics Approach means that
Recognize words as a whole (Top – Down ) also they can know the sound of each word .
for example , the teacher build the word hot then she ask him what is the sound you hear
from hot word . In Analytic phonics it teaches the children to identify the sound of the
words that they do previously . In my opinion , i think synthetic is the best way to teach
the children how to read phonics also it’s easy for them also in synthetic they learn two
things the sound of the letters and build words. Moreover, children will read the words
easily and they will not face difficulties in reading. analytic approach is little bit difficult
for some of the students because they will be already known the words and the teacher
will teach them how to read the first letter in the word , some of the students will face
difficulties because they have to learn the sound of each letter and some students are
smart, the analytic approach will help the students to develop their reading by learning
new words .

 Multiliteracy

“he way language is constructed and how meanings vary across different cultural
or social contexts.
The term is also commonly becoming understood as the way that understanding and
knowledge is often best gained and reflected through multimodal representations. Written
forms combine with auditory, visual, spatial, oral and tactile representations to produce
meaning. While in many schools and agencies use standardized tests to evaluate student
comprehension, they are not the best or most accurate means to evaluate students.

Representations of information, especially in the media, appear in multimodal formats,

increasing the importance of understanding these representations as well as the reliance
on this type of format.

In order for students to learn and gather information from multimodal contexts
effectively, they must first learn to engage multiple literacies. The ability to learn in a
variety of forms helps students to effectively gather information, generate understanding
and reflect their knowledge‖.

Multiliteracy competencies
Multiple literacies can be broken down into understanding visual, textual, digital and
technological representations of knowledge.

Visual literacy
Understanding and reflecting through visual means.

Textual literacy
Reading to understand and evaluate using a variety of sources (literature, articles,
historical documents) .

Digital literacy
Gathering and synthesizing information from digital mediums, including online sources
or mediums.

Technological literacy
Using technology responsibly to learn, communicate, and create‖.

Importance of Multiliteracy

―Teaching multiple literacies is successful for a variety of outcomes. Studies show that
multiliterate students are more active in their own learning and more engaged, increasing
their overall motivation. One of the primary goals of multiple literacies is providing
students with the element of choice; this allows students to pursue topics that interest
them and develop their ability to reflect knowledge in ways that best support their skill
set. Finally, students take greater ownership in their learning, resulting in stronger student
outcomes‖.
Part B

Emergent literacy

―Emergent literacy is a term that is used to explain a child's knowledge of reading and
writing skills before they learn how to read and write words.‖ It signals a belief that, in
literate society, young children—even one- and two-year-olds—are in the process of
becoming literate‖. Dear Parents you can help your children to improve their emergent
literacy knowledge by teaching them phonics, First you can teach them by showing them
video after they see the video they can do the practice with you also you can download
program in the iPad that can help your child to learn phonics so they will learn quickly
while they are playing they will not feel bored and you should do it fun for them because
some of the programs are like a game and some of the programs are bored and your child
will feel bored . There are a lot of programs that support digital literacy, the meaning of
digital literacy is the‖ set of competencies required for full participation in a knowledge
society. It includes knowledge, skills, and behaviors involving the effective use of digital
devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs for purposes of
communication, expression, collaboration and advocacy‖.

 ADEC Curriculum

ADEC refers to Abu Dhabi Educational Council it is a curriculum. In this curriculum, the
essential subjects are taught in English and teachers are required to receive IELTS .

programs that support digital literacy

There are a lot of programs that support digital literacy . The first program is Digital
Literacy ―To get help with digital literacy, it is important to start at the beginning. This
all-encompassing website includes the fundamentals of what digital literacy is. Teachers
can browse through the site and find useful resources such as informative articles,
creative games, and inspiring projects‖. ―The second program is National Foundation
for Educational Research While this site is based in the U.K., it still offers useful
information for teachers across the globe. It builds on the collaboration of two charities
which aim to foster the quality of teaching and learning, primarily in a digital age.
Educators can navigate the website and read about new research in the field of
educational technology, as well as modern trends that are changing the educational
landscape‖.

Conclusion
Analytic Phonics Children learn to means that Recognize words as a whole (Top –

Down ) also they can know the sound of each word . Synthetic phonic instructions

means that Make relationship between letters and sounds. Those two approaches

appropriate and its very useful system for children in kg 1 and kg2 and it help them

to learn quick .
