REASON OF WHY STUDENTS IN MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY-MAIGO

SCHOOL OF ARTS AND TRADES MUST FOLLOW SCHOOL RULES

INTRODUCTION

According to Goodwin (2018). “Classroom rules are important to your class

community. When students have rules, they know what your expectations are for them.
They know what you want them to do, and they know that there are consequences for
failing to follow the rules”. When it comes to creating classroom rules, consider
including your students in the process. As students take part in making the rules, they
take ownership in the rules. They’ll will work to follow them and make sure that their
classmates are following them, too. Of course, you can sway your students to choose
ones that encompass all the necessary rules for your classroom. Think about some of the
top classroom rules to help you.

The school rules have been established in partnership with the community over a
long period of time. They reflect the school community’s expectations in terms of
acceptable standards of behaviour, dress and personal presentation in the widest sense.
Students are expected to follow the school rules at all times when on the school grounds,
representing the school, attending a school activity or when clearly associated with the
school i.e. when wearing school uniform. In addition to classroom procedures, students
will need to establish general rules of classroom conduct. Students — especially the older
ones — will respect rules more if they've had a hand in creating them. Many teachers
develop a list of what they consider the bare essentials, and then negotiate the remaining
rules with their students.

The school’s approach towards discipline is for every student to acquire self
discipline and be responsible conduct so as to contribute to the overall well-being of all in
the school. Every child has the right to expect a conducive teaching and learning
environment. Likewise, every student has the responsibility to contribute to that
environment.

The school is a place of learning; therefore, there must be an atmosphere based on

mutual respect. All students should demonstrate a desire to get the best education
possible. Students are expected to be in class on time, and to demonstrate courteous
behavior so that each individual’s rights are respected and everyone can learn in an
orderly environment. Students are expected to be prepared with all necessary materials
for learning, and homework assignments daily. Teachers will discuss and review
classroom rules at the beginning of the school year, and will continue to implement them
throughout the year. The same level of respectful behavior shown in the classroom is
expected in the cafeteria. Students are expected to follow directions the first time they are
given.
