ABSTRACT

The web 2.0 technology and its associated social networks have brought tremendous effects
in each day life. The effect is now reaching the social and cultural activities due to online
increasing activities. Social networking sites have changed the way people interact and
communicate. The purpose of this research study is to examine impact of social network on
social and cultural activities of district Khairpur. A descriptive survey design was used
which included administering of questionnaires and focus group discussions as research
instruments. The simple random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 300
people of district Khairpur.

This study provides information about the relationship among the users about their social and
cultural activities i.e., how they are developing social networking among their friends and the
families. In this study, both primary and secondary data have been used. For the primary data,
a structured questionnaire consisting of close-ended questions to extract the view points of
the respondents has been used. For the secondary data, the data have been extracted from
different magazines, journals, newspapers and websites.

The study concludes that respondents spend at least one or two hour a day online and the
most popular SNS for them is Facebook. The three top-used social media tools are Facebook,
WhatsApp and Twitter ; the top four reasons for using social media tools are for
entertainment , cultural activities, social activities and notification. The use of SNSs at the
expense of going out to find friends to interact with face to face.

The study found that, although the SNSs have helped adjusting to Sindhi culture, acquire
knowledge about culture, keeping touch with old friends and build interpersonal relationships
among other friends who are not close to them.

DISCUSSION

There are many SNS Facebook, Skype, twitter, WhatsApp from them Facebook is mostly
used site by the people. Most of the people spend time more than one hour on social
networks. SNS have positive impact on communication and information and negative impact
on learning. Social networking is a useful tool for social, cultural, entertainment, notification,
political, jobs and education activities. Use of SNS help in promoting and adjusting to Sindhi
culture. Through SNS people can make friends of different cultures and keep in touch with
old friends. There is no effect of different cultures on the culture of district Khairpur using
SNS. Now a day’s people spend more time with friends on SNS and make new friends as
compared to real life.

Conclusion

After getting all findings and discussed the conclusion of collected data the use of social
networking in right direction and utilize social networking sites favorable and appropriate
manner to its users. SNS is most recent form of media and having many features and
characteristics. It have many facilities on same channel like as communicating, texting,
images sharing, audio and video sharing, fast publishing, linking with all over world, direct
connecting. It is also cheapest fast access to the world so it is very important for all age of
peoples. Its use is increasing day by day with high rate in all over the world.

Among the SNSs Facebook is the most popular and effective means of collective interaction.
But now a days due to SNSs people do not meet face to face with each other instead old
friends and peoples of different areas having different backgrounds can share information by
using SNSs.

This work presented the impact of social network on social and cultural activities: a case
study of district Khairpur. The data is collected in written form after requesting the people of
Khairpur to pass their valued comments. The feedback received reported that social networks
spread positive effects on the social and cultural activities of district Khairpur .

Major recommendations from the study

1. Peoples need to be taught on controlled usage of the social networking sites. So as not
to rely heavily on SNSs.
2. The study generally focused on impacts of Social Network on social and cultural
activities among peoples. A similar study can be done specifically on the positive
impacts or the negative impacts of the social networking sites.
3. The study focused only on Khairpur District. Similar study ought to be done
elsewhere either nationally or internationally.
4. 2. There is also need to carry out more research to analyze the positive effects of the
social media, particularly social networking sites, on education since this research did
not address this adequately.

CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION

This chapter describe the Background of the study, Rationale of this research work, Problem
Statement, aims, Objective. Furthermore and Research Questions are described.

1.1 Background to the Study

The Internet insurrection changed the information world with regard to storage, speed,
sharing and repossession of information in whatever form at least of the person location.
During the using of Internet, many web technologies are appearing and a technology that has
social networking in creating information related to sharing and communication. The social
networking is involved in its positive and negative impact in all parts of society.

Social media has changed and generally affect communication, learning, research and
education. Using social media by peoples is positively a attractive share of research for
cultural , social and educational activities. Many online tools are available for
communication, information, social networking has develop into the most modern and pretty
tools for connecting people the whole time the world along with many advantages of internet
it has been observed that internet is being misused in different ways in the world.

An attractive feature of social networking is that, it is not limited to laptop or desktop


computers could be accessed through smart phones and mobile applications making it very
reachable and easy to use. Social media is a method peers use to show associations the
content they think is significant. These social networking sites platforms both on the mobile
application and web include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter, blogs,
linked etc. An evaluation the finding of social network sites are a result of cultural, social,
learning and communication activities..

SNSs focus heavily on building online city areas positive to along with common activities.
Therefore provide them tools that help them to make this occur. Within the piece of group
learning and the SNSs handled the large problems by teachers now days. In this situation
internet sites, when peoples keep informed their user profiles and their unique pages, they
could provide inclusive details about themselves minutiae.

Social network sites to help group discusses for learning might be the network found in
learning environment for hopeful the students in learning, communication and collaborate in
groups, communication connecting the students, administrative center and experts
entrepreneurs. The importance is not only in information sharing but also in education
processes. The social network sites are apt for educational and enduring learning purposes in
our knowledge society, because our modern society is built to a large digital environments of
work, social communication and cultural activities. This study will focus on finding out waste
use of social networking into social, cultural activities and education.

1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Technological changed from analogue to digital has immeasurably changed the behavior of
people communicate in society. It is something that cannot be wished away. Many people’s
have joined and many still joining Social Networking Sites (SNS). They further raise
concerns such as how do these SNS fit into the lives of these peoples and what they are
learning from their participation. Social networking sites have a part of our daily life
experience for increasing number of peoples.

Although social networking has been generally experienced in learning enhancement,


because of active communication and collaboration, But unfortunately this cheap and
accessible platform is rarely realized in E-learning activities. Because traditionally social
media as not designed for support the educational activities. But now it is completely
integrated in all social activities and cultural activities. The purpose of this study is to
investigate the Impact Of Social Network On Social And Cultural Activities: A Case Study
Of District Khairpur.

How are social network applications now days used in social and cultural activities? What are
the solutions features of social networking sites and what is their impact to current cultural
activities? The quick development of social networking has had a immense impact on the
manner of Peoples are interacts on a daily basis. While the use of technology as an SNSs is
the most important factor that can affect positive or negative student performance.
This work aims to understand impact of social network on social and cultural activities. The
first goal is to understand what a Network is and how it has grown up. Further it intends to
conclude current researches on this matter which areas this social networking sites affects,
how it affects and what are the impacts. Lastly this aims to show future directions of social
networking and how the impact will change in future.

The impact of the gender variable on (pattern, motives, positive and negative) impacts in
relation to the peoples who are using social networking sites. The study relies on the
descriptive concept survey form and the questionnaire.

1.3 Aim and Objectives.


The aim of this research to initiate an Impact Of Social Network On Social And Cultural
Activities of the people of District Khairpur. It will on Social Networks used by peoples and
students of District Khairpur Sindh Pakistan. Respondents of this study will be peoples and
students of District Khairpur. The aims and objectives of this study are stated as below:

 To review the literature of various social media applications that affects the social
and cultural activities across the world.

 To explore the problems of peoples by using social media platforms for learning,
communication and information.

 To prepare the questionnaire for collection of the feedbacks from the different nature
of peoples.

 To explore and analyze the real usage of SNSs and its impacts for the enhancement
of social and cultural activities of peoples of District Khairpur.

 To examine how the social media effects according to age, gender on student’s
education.

 To measure how much peoples are going towards the isolation due to the usage of
social networks.

 To propose the suggestions and recommendations pertaining to the usage of social


networking sites.

1.6 Significance of the Study


It is expected that the output of this research will benefit common peoples, students, teachers
of district Khairpur Mir’s Sindh as will show the level of the people use of social networking
sites. This shall help them to know how best to sustain people’s awareness on using SNS and
also add to the existing social literatures on social networking.

This study is significant to the people, teachers, parents and students. This study will help the
people to know the influence that social network sites have on their culture, so as to assist
them to enlighten and create knowledge to the people on the possible manipulate it has on
them. The study is important for parents and students in the sense that they will know the
possible effects these social network usage has on their children, so as to provide as regular
base usage of the social networking site.

The study will allow the people of the higher level so that they will be conscious apart from
the social benefits of this social networking site, using the sites more than necessary will
cause possible dangers to their health. It will be relevant in assisting students in
understanding the diversity of social network. It will provide relevance material for people
and other researchers undertaking similar research. The study will help researchers with more
information on the power of social network on student’s educational performance.

1.7 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


Limitation of this study will be that peoples who are going to be covered belong to district
Khairpur Sindh Pakistan mostly with same cultural and different financial backgrounds. They
therefore have different capabilities in acquiring technological devices such as laptops, i-pads
and even smart phones. People from well off families have better access to internet and more
sophisticated gadgets and thus able to do more online than those from disadvantaged families.
This study will be limited to peoples of district Khairpur Mirs Sindh Pakistan.

1.8 ASSUMPTIONS OF THE STUDY


1. People of district Khairpur use Social Networking Sites.
2. People of district Khairpur have easy access to internet.
3. People of district Khairpur are active in online social networking sites.

CHAPTER 2 LITERATURE REVIEW


This chapter reviewed some of the frequent works done by scholars and researchers which
are directly related to this research work.

1.1 INTRODUCTION
Literature review is based on the research problems and the purpose of pre-defined
objectives. The findings from other studies and gatherings from journals, proceedings,
books, websites pertaining and intellectual literature to social networking sites (SNS), the
technologies and relation of education to SNS are presented here. The fast development of
the Internet application has led to the increase of social networking sites. The appearance of
social networks has changed the way of people interaction and interact online.
