You can say the word leeh alone if the sentence in question is implied in the conversation,
like you would say "why" on its own sometimes. The answer to leeh usually starts with ashaan,
which is the Egyptian Arabic word for "because".

A useful word to know, when you're being asked if you have something, is beyethayya'lii,
which corresponds to "I think so." Use it when you're not sure whether you have the thing in
question, but you think you probably do. It can be used in many other situations just like its
English equivalent.

To sound more delicate and caring while saying that you don't have something, such as a
tissue, it sounds very natural to answer laa, wallaahi meaning "No, I swear". It implies that you
want to help by giving the requested item, but you can't because you just don't have it.

CULTURAL INSIGHT
In Arabic, the word that translates to "to like" and "to love" is the same; it's the verb yhebb.
How do you know which one they mean then? The only way to know which one is intended is
by context. But usually, if it's followed by a person's name, it probably means that you love
them, so be careful about using it in that context! It might cause misunderstandings.

Try not to use the verb bakrah meaning "I hate" a lot, as it will give off the impression that you
are a hateful person, because this word in Egyptian Arabic has a very strong nuance. To be
safe, avoid it and use mesh baheb meaning "I don't like".

language and culture and have fun at the same time!
