1. indoors
computers, desks, chairs, white boards, map, shelf.
2. outdoors
jungle gym, swing, vegetable garden(if it counts)
C. Centers (include type of each center and materials available to children within
that center)
1. computer center:
the teacher selects some students each time to use a computer. The students at the computer
select a free online math game from their class math page or some other software that meets
their needs.
2. reading center:
students pick a book from the shelf and seat on the rug, start reading a book.
3. listening center:
for this center, all the students and teacher work together, to explore something new, the
teacher read the book and ask questions, and the students do small group discussion and
answer questions. (they studied about insects when i was observing them).
I think the environment and materials reflect only a single culture, there are students for variety
of backgrounds, teacher should hang more positive pictures from Asian, Mexico also Africa
America. That will make all kids feel pride of their own country. (DAP293)
Available materials are limited, teacher should provide a variety of materials to actively engage
them in a range of learning experiences. (DAP294)
I think the vegetable garden is a great idea. Gardening offers hands-on, experiential learning
opportunities in a wide array of disciplines, including the natural and social sciences, language
arts and nutrition. Because best way for children to learn is by see it and touch it. (Learn
through class)
A. Philosophy
they experience success and develop understanding, teachers include finding and using information, making
connections across the curriculum, and organizing learning around new concepts.
We believe that children take responsibility for their learning when they understand what it means to learn,
to be reflective, and to set and reach personal learning goals. Knowing that children have their own unique
learning styles, lessons are structured to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom with ongoing
assessment strategies and timely feedback to support continuous learning.
A quality education is supported by a collaborative effort between home and school. In order for students to
reach their potential, they must see their parents and teachers working together. Parents are encouraged to
become active participants at school through volunteering in the classrooms or the school library,
participating in special school events such as “Back to School Night” and parent workshops, or attendance at
student performances.
It is very important to see every child is different. Keep an open communication with the
parent; remind both of the school and classroom rules. Work together to develop a goal and
plan to help the student improve. Always stay firm, consistent, fair, and patient with all students.
She mentioned that to create a caring environment is very important, the excellent teacher
make it a priority to develop a warm positive relationship with each child. Because the children
can learn best when they know the teacher loves them and care about their feelings. (DAP35)
It is good for teacher and parents share information in ways that are clear, respectful. Because
the more intensely parents are involved, the more beneficial the achievement effects. Family
Project
members may take a part in classroom activities such as sharing a cultural event or
language.(DAP325)
When I look at the lesson plan that the teacher gave me, I can tell that is too much for second
grade students, the lecture too focused on academic areas and they should give more attention
to social-emotional dimensions. (DAP290)
1. When the students come to classroom in the morning, they first hand in their
homework and then start reading a book.
2. A finger to the lips when the students pass the hall way.
1. Follow the directions quickly. (the teacher told class to put the art work away and need to
find a math book. She said it is April of second grade, thank you for the group 4 following
directions quickly, and after that mentioned another student’s name, that he did not put his
art work away.)
2. Raise your hand for permission to leave the seat. (There was one boy raised his hand
while the teacher was talking, she said it was not the time, you cannot leave the seat now.)
1. Teacher asks class a question, and let several students share their opinions.
Project
2. Teacher walk around the classroom while the students work individually and check on
some students if they need extra help.
3. Reading time, the teacher spends more time with ESL students, help the students
pronounce and understand each word better.
1. Offering students choices.(When a child finished his coloring picture, teacher gave
the girl two choices, go to the computer center or read a book, she choose to read
a book.)
3. Redirection (during class one boy was drawing something on the book, teacher
said please follow us )
Teacher should not mention that boy’s name just because he did not put the art work away,
because compare students is really bad behavior for a teacher, it will hurt student’s feeling also
may results in low self-esteem. (Learn through class)
Another issue I thought was that teacher never gave a break to students, the schedule is very
rigid, she even didn’t let the boy go to the bathroom, because she was talking. It is not
appropriate to let students sit still for long period of time. (DAP294)
Teacher designs all classroom activities to allow all children understand and full participate
include that children from ESL program. And she also gives extra attention to those kids.
