About ARTES DE CUBA

Sound. Movement. Magic. Brilliance. Taste. Calor. Experience all the
exuberance of Cuban arts and culture on the stages of the Kennedy
Center. This unprecedented gathering brings some of the world’s
greatest artists from the Island and the Diaspora for a two-week
celebration featuring 400-plus artists in more than 50 events. Our
festival features music, dance, theater, film, fashion, design, and
cuisine. From traditional to contemporary, Cuba is bound to dazzle
and delight with the vividness of its artists’ imaginations. Showcasing
many of Cuba’s finest artists and leading Cuban American
creators, Artes de Cuba encompasses the breadth and vibrancy of
one of the most dynamic cultures in the world. Indulge yourself in its
abundant pleasures—you will be inspired!
About Batalá
Batalá in Washington, D.C., is part of a larger Batalá family created in
1997 by Giba Gonçalves. Born and raised in Salvador, Bahia in Brazil,
Gonçalves was living in Paris when he first had the idea for the band.
Open to anyone with an interest in learning the samba-reggae beat,
the band started with 60 people. In 2007, the newest branch of the
Batalá band was created in Washington, D.C., expanding the reach of
the band’s music to the United States. Today, there are 30 and
counting Batalá bands around the world.
These groups of high-energy percussionists take their performances
seriously, and the results are pure fun and entertainment. To
participate in the drumline, members must demonstrate both good
grades in school and a willingness and discipline to learn outside of
school. In addition to expanding their drumline talents, they learn
leadership skills and gain confidence. These musicians take
ownership of the stage or street wherever they perform—from
Barclays Center to MetLife Stadium to Carnegie Hall.

About Brooklyn United Evolution Drumline

The Brooklyn United Evolution Drumline combines the musical
