STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

MSc CONSTRUCTION AND MANAGEMENT AT SOUTH WESTPHALIA

UNIVERSITY ISERLOHN,GERMANY

As a mechanical engineer,I am applying for master course in "Construction and

Management" at South Westphalia University for broadening my research potential in the
field of engineering and management with a strong emphasis on the core subject
topics.University undoubtedly offers the best curriculum for all those who aspire to
pursue a career in engineering related industry or research organizations.I firmly believe
that I am fully qualified for this program in your esteemed university with my academic
and professional experience.

After completing my bachelor degree,I worked for two years in a firm named
"KATTOOR ASSOCIATES" which is one of the sub contractor of Larson and Toubro at
Chennai and Delhi.The project was undertaken by Larson and Toubro.From my
experience as Mechanical Supervisor ,I got the practical knowledge related to the
construction field and now I believe its time for broadening my knowledge in particular
field.Our firm manager Mr. Reji Jacob suggested me to apply for a master course in
Germany.I searched a lot in internet and after several discussion with my professors and
friends, I had decided to apply for a master course.I worked hard for learning German
language and successfully passed B2 level.

To start my career on path of science,I choose science stream during my high school.I did
my high school in Holy Family High School,Elangoi and secondary education at
St.Thomas School,Erumeli. I scored 95% mark in High school and 65% mark in
secondary education

After completing secondary education,I was confused in selecting the engineering

stream.I took one year break and during this time i worked as a helper in an automobile
workshop.From their I got all the basic practical knowledge in mechanical processes.As I
was interested in welding,cutting,grinding,bending etc.. I chooses mechanical engineering
for my bachelors.In 2010 I enrolled myself for mechanical engineering at Srinivas
Institute Of Technology,Mangalore affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University
which is graded under H+.

During my term at the college,I studied various theories of science and engineering and I
was inspired by all of them.During my first phase in college,I found the transition from
secondary school setup to a college is a bit demanding.But I picked up the speed
gradually.I involved myself in several projects to further understand the subject.Our
minor project was "Automatic lug nut remover".We got the inspiration from watching F1
races and we friends decided to design the same thing within an effective budget.The
objective was to make the tyre removal easier.As it was our minor project,we are not
allowed to spend much.So we designed it for car with a standard dimension.And we had
extended our ideas to use the same assembly for different vehicles.We presented a paper
describing the further development and application of the system.

Our major project was "Designing and Fabrication of Segway".We had seen Segway in
many films .We researched a lot.Two of our group members were little confused about
the success of the project because the balancing of Segway is a big challenge.But our
project guide Mr.Raghavendra gave us all the assistance and we got the momentum.We
had completed the project with utmost perfection within an effective cost.We received lot
of appreciation from the entire department.We used Ansys software for designing.

After completing my bachelor degree I went to Chennai.I was confident that I will get a
job in any mechanical related company.But the initial experience was not so sweet.I
spend many days by searching for job.Applied for jobs in job portals like
Naukari,Timesjobs etc..,visited many companies directly.After several attempts I lost my
confidence.During my bus journey,I met an engineer who working at Larson and
Toubro.He helped me to get a job as a trainee in a company called "ARCUBE
ENGINEERING PRIVATE Ltd",which is a sub contractor of Larson and Toubro.I learned
a lot from their and experienced the application of the knowledge we gained during our
studies in the real work environment.I learned all the basics of mechanical operations
from skilled laborers.

After six months,I got a better offer from a company called Kattoor Associates Pvt
Ltd,which is also a sub contractor of Larson and Toubro.So I moved to Delhi.Their I got
the position as Mechanical Supervisor It was a big project including construction of
underground metro stations,roofing works,tunnel boring and lining works.At first I was
little surprised by seeing all these.But slowly I was moulded to the work environment.

During the first phase,I worked at Fabrication yard.Fabrication of steel structure require
good knowledge in Auto Cad.Though I had basic knowledge in Auto Cad,it was not
sufficient to deal with drawings of major structures.So I joined for Diploma course in
Auto Cad.It was little struggle for me,because the classes were on week ends.I avoided all
my other activities and within a short time I got the diploma certificate.It was very helpful
for my further works.After six months,I moved to erection section where huge steel
structures are erected with 100% accuracy.My duty was challenging,because we need to
check the quality and perfection of welding works.I felt proud how I transformed to a
good Quality controller.Then I shifted to dismantling section,where the risk factor is very
high and need to execute all the works at utmost safety.Tunnel boring and lining works
were very interesting.German company Herrenknecht had undertaken the tunnel boring
work.One of the engineer Mr.Alexander Seilert suggested me to apply for a job in
Germany.So I started learning German language myself with help of internet.

In June 2016,I resigned from the job and joined for German class at Goethe Zentrum.I
successfully completed B2 level and started applying for job.After several attempts,I
understood that it is hard to get a job without a master degree.So I started looking for MS.
Initially I don't had confidence to apply for MS,because my CGPA was 6.2.Many friends
told,only those who having CGPA more than 9 will get admission for MS.During the first
two years of my studies,I was totally interested in project works and paper
presentation,and I had not taken the academic percentage so serious.But last two years,I
worked hard.Though the final year subjects are very difficult,I scored very good
percentage.I am sure,that my strong determination will help me to achieve my dreams.

I have selected the course "Construction and Management",because the role of

Mechanical Engineer is very notable in field of infrastructure development.I was worried
about the risky life of laborers who working in underground project.I personally seen
several times,engineers releasing their ethics for the timely completion of work,as it is an
issue if prestige.Each and every risky jobs require accuracy and safety
precautions.Practical knowledge is not enough to evaluate all problems.So I decided to
broaden my knowledge in the particular field.

I have especially selected your esteemed university,because it provides utmost

importance to practical studies .I believe,it will help me in my studies.The location is also
very apt for me,because my sponsor un Germany Mr.Rudy told me that he will arrange
accommodation for me.The university also puts care on the quality of life if students
which also interested me a lot.
