3. Equipment needed:

• Beads (variety of colors, sizes, and shapes)

• String or yawn
• Scissors
• Patterns for a guide (optional)
• Key chain hooks

4. Activity Description:

• This activity can be done alone or in small groups

• Have everyone sit at a table
• Set up the supplies on the table where everyone can reach them
• Start by having each person cut the length of string they want depending on what they
want to make (bracelet, necklace, anklet, keychain, etc. )
• After each person has a piece of string start to place the beads on the string
• Patterns can be passed out or people can make up their own design
• This activity requires little physical activity and energy
• This activity requires participants to use their arms and hands to make their own jewelry

5. Primary interaction pattern: The primary interaction pattern that would best fit this
activity would be aggregate. Aggregate would best fit this activity because the participants
are each working on something individually but are in a group with other people around
them. Each person is making jewelry while in a group with other people all doing the same
thing.
6. Adaptation: A disability group that this activity could be adapted to is Parkinson’s disease.
An adaptation that could be made to this activity is to provide didn’t sizes beads and different
string. Providing bigger sized beads will make it easier for people with Parkinson’s disease
to place them on the string. This will help them make the bracelet or necklace easier.
Another adaptation that could be made to this activity is to not put a time limit because these
patients may take longer to make their jewelry compared to someone who does not have a
disability. Another adaptation to make is to make sure each person has a well-supported
chair to help with their posture instability.
