My Reflection on the Arts

At the beginning of this year, my piano teacher asked me if I was taking any more music

classes this year. I replied, “no,” and she asked why that was. My answer: “I’ve taken all of

them. There are no more music courses for me to take.”

My main focus throughout my four years of music class was the piano, as I had begun

taking piano lessons when I was in fifth grade, and have continued them through the present.

However, we also worked on other areas as well, such as music theory, sight reading, the history

of music, and even other instruments. Due to the focus I put on the piano throughout my time

here, I do not have many tangible artifacts in that area.

Two artifacts that I am proud to show are the rubrics from the music jury in EEP Music

and the score sheet/medal from the Rhode Island Musical Educators Association Solo and

Ensemble Competition. These artifacts, both from recent events, showcase my progression

within my area of music. In particular, the RIMEA competition demonstrates my skill with the

piano, which is due to the practice ethic instilled in me by these classes.

I hope to continue playing the piano throughout college, and after as well. Music for me

is a good way to relieve stress while also staying engaged.
